how much is your wedding cake?

if you can tell me, how much was or will be your wedding cake? we'll be having around 140 guests. i've looked into two bakeries and one quoted me $1100-1500 depending on design. not sure if this is average or way too high. this bakery is highly recommended by others.

Location and design play a big part in the cost of a wedding cake. People should post what city the bakery they purchased the cake from is located.

Also, fillings, gourmet flavors, fondant, sugar flowers, piping, overall design...will affect the price. If you have shown a bakery a picture of a cake you want and the cost is too high for your budget don't just dismiss that bakery (because bakeries in the same town that offer same quality work usually charge around the same). Ask what can be altered from the picture you lower the price to your budget - then tell them you budget and be honest.

If you are going into a bakery with no ideas or want something competely custom tell the baker (or consultation person) what you budget is upfront. That will help them design a cake for you that you can afford. This way you don't fall in love with a design only to find out it costs twice what you wanted to pay.

We are paying $315 for a 4 tier carrot cake, with whipped cream cheese frosting. The baker will only be putting the dots on the cake, as the fall decor would have added another $100. A friend does cakes so, she will use our fall decor to decorate it. At $5.00 a slice, I had to cut the budget somewhere. Besides, we both despise fondant.

My groom's cake is a 1/4 sheet of chocolate and is only $30.

    Good luck with your cake!

We're getting a three tier cake with one tier completely covered in mini white chocolate curls and sugar flowers on top for 631. It's the first thing I've gone over budget on but the cake is super important to me.

In total, about $225. We have a three tiered white cake with buttercream frosting, a chocolate sheet cake, and a groom's cheesecake. All of this will feed about 200 people. We really didn't have cake as a priority, but the samples we had were delicious and within our price range.

It seems pretty high, but that might be the norm for your area and what kind of cake you need. You should quietly ask some other bakeries for a quote on the same kind of cake and see what they say. Use http://www.gatheringguide.com/event_categories/cakes_desserts_bakeries.html to get the ones in your area.

Our cake will serve about 150 and will be a smaller 3 tier hexagon, just a simple white w/swirls design and some faux diamonds going around each hexagon. The estimated price for it from our cake vendor is about $400-500 dollars, which is MUCH cheaper than we had expected! Smiley smile

I haven't ordered my cake yet but was quoted $4.50/p for a basic design round tiered Cake. Meghan B is right. Prices go up with extras like fillings, designs, fondant VS. buttercream.

We didn't care much about the cake, and we were having a fairly small wedding with a picnic-style reception. We decided to do mini cupcakes to keep it as simple as possible, and everyone said it was perfect. We also had an 8 inch round for cutting. We paid about $50 including the cake stand. The cake topper was made by my mother. Sorry I don't have pics on this computer showing the cupcakes but the stand was 3 tiered and we had the cupcakes on the lower levels.

We are doing a cupcake tower with a 2 tier cake on top. It will serve 225 and cost us $722 including set up, delivery, custom design, and some take home boxes.

Clearly, I did the right thing by marrying the baker. (NotFroofy made our cake.)

We are getting 50 cupcakes, and a cake that feeds 100. Our guest list including us is 75 people. lol. Just to be on the safe side. It is going to run us about 250. We went to a small bakery, and her stuff is amazing.
