How much say are your bridesmaids getting in the choice of their dresses.

Melissa, on September 12, 2021 at 11:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 35

Apologies if that is worded badly, first post here. But how much say are you giving your bridesmaids when it comes to the bridesmaids gowns that they will be wearing. I've been a bridesmaid for 3 weddings, and all the time the bride picked out a dress and told us to order it. I'm leaning towards picking out a color and telling my bridesmaids to find a gown in that color. My sister says I should just pick the dresses and tell them that they are wearing what I choose. Curious to know how much say your bridesmaids are getting.

I want the same color, but I'm talking them through what I want, and I'm open to hearing ideas from them. I'm leaving styles, length and cut up to them. A cut that might suit one of my bridesmaids may not suit the other, and I don't want to be dictating everything. I want them to feel like they're getting a say as well.

I gave them a few colors/shades to choose from and they had total freedom over everything else (style, store, fabric, etc.) They ended up getting very different things, but all of them are ankle-length so it will look cohesive that way.

I am choosing the color and the girls are choosing their own dresses. The way I see it, these are my closest friends and I want them to feel beautiful and confident in whatever they wear. Body shapes and sizes differ so much from one person to another, and everyone has different comfort levels, so I wanted them to be able to choose whatever it was they feel great in!

I'm picking out the dresses. My bridesmaids are getting zero say haha. I want them to match, and I'm paying for the dresses, so they can deal with it lol.

I narrowed it down to David’s Bridal, color wine, long length, and either chiffon or mesh fabric. The girls each got to choose their style and had a wide variety of styles and prices to choose from.

I only have one bridal party member and I just told her what color from what website and she picked the dress. She showed me a few options before purchasing and I gave her the okay. I didn’t her for that but she did it as a courtesy.

We went to David's Bridal, and I told them what color it needed to be and that I wanted them to be long. They went from there!

I’m going for the mismatched bridesmaids look, so I’m letting them decide on the dress, but I’ve given a couple parameters: floor length, chiffon, and I want half in color A and the other half in color B — so we can get SOME uniformity in there while still looking “mismatched!”

I sent my girls about 10 links and asked they choose a first and second choice, since I was going for a mismatched look.
One of my girls ended up looking at some of the other options from one of the designers and asked if she could choose a different one in the same color/fabric. I said of course. Another girl ordered her selected dress but it didn’t work with her body shape—she did as the other girl did, order another in the same color/length/fabric from that designer and ask me if she could wear that instead.

I gave them the color & they chose the dress. I was not about to choose a dress that would look horrible on them. My sister was my MOH & I had her in burgundy. How much say are your bridesmaids getting in the choice of their dresses. 1

I chose the color and the dresses. The gowns were all different styles, cuts, materials etc. I had 10 bridesmaids and three didn’t like the style of dress that chose for them and so I sent them my b,c,d choices for them and they chose from those and it all worked out wonderfully.

I gave my bridesmaid a color and told them they can either get the same dress, or all mix and match. I ended up sending them a few dresses that I liked and they all loved a specific dress & ordered it!

I gave them a few different paint samples and said they could get a dress in any of those colors, as long as everyone has a slightly different shade because I wanted a variety of colors in the same color scheme.

I sent them a link, and asked if they liked it, and if they would mind if I ordered it. I told them if they truly despised it when it arrived we could totally pick something else, and I wouldn't mind, but they liked it well enough.

It's a pretty covered dress that you can wear a regular bra with, no huge leg splits or any other things that might make a dress uncomfortable for someone to wear, so there's not really anything to actively hate, but I do think if you want to be so specific, it's only fair to pay, and this is the cultural norm where I live.

So, I'm paying for everything - shoes, hair, makeup, accessories, dress, wraps, so all they really have to do is turn up on the day.

As someone who has struggled with body insecurities and self-confidence issues all my life, it was really important to me that my bridesmaids got to pick their own dresses that they felt comfortable in. No one wants to wear a dress they don't like let alone one that they don't feel confident in.

When we went dress shopping I told the girls that the dresses had to be black, floor length, and the same material. It was up to them whether they wanted something fitted, flowy, with sleeves, without etc. In the end, they both actually ended up picking the same dress!

I agree that they should get a little say based on what suits their body, but don't just give them free reign or you might wind up with something that isn't as appropriate as you'd like. My friend's MOH was very boobylicious at her church wedding, and couldn't do anything about it cuz the dress was non-returnable!

This is what I'm doing as well! Everyone has different styles, I'd rather they pick out what they like so they're comfortable and confident.

I'm choosing a variety on Azazie in the same color, length, and fabric and I'll let each of them choose a dress from there. I've got 4 bridesmaids and found like 13 dresses that I'd be cool with, so hopefully they can each find one. If someone thinks they need something else then they can definitely find another style as long as those three things are the same.

For mine I knew I wanted a specific dress. I just made sure they all liked it and I think it will be able to be worn again. Some of my girls said they definitely wanted it cut shorter after the wedding so they will definitely wear it again.
