Recently I read an article about wedding gifts. It says that basically I should be expecting about 150-350 from each couple. That is crazy!!!! I was not realy expecting much or anything at all since most ppl will be traveling n spending a lot of money; but I felt kind of bad for gifts I had made to...

Based on our research in the 2019 WeddingWire Guest Study, guests spend an average of $120 on a gift, though relationship to the couple impacts their spend. This study was a national survey among U.S. adults ages 22-54 who have attended at least one wedding in the past year.

I target between $40-$50. I was at a wedding where there was NO dinner/just reception- I did give less then. The whole point is to cover your meal plus. I havent been to any 'formal' weddings more backyard BBQ's and whatnot.

I personally think you should give what you can afford.

We got 35 to 60 from most, but usually if they give a bridal gift, alot might not do a wedding gift!

I usually do about $50. If it's a gift and goes a little under or over, it's not a big deal, but I usually do cash. I will sometimes give a little more to really close friends or family.

Typically you are supposed to give your plate price per person. FH and I will usually give about $150-$200 and about $50 to $100 at the shower. I also live in Jersey where everything is double in price lol. I think it's also what you are comfortable with.

I normally give $200 per couple for a wedding gift ($100 if you are going as a single). However depending if your finances are tight then $150 per couple or ($75 as a single) is appropriate. This is the standard if you live on the east coast. Most of my friends that I have asked say the same and trust me none of us are wealthy! Unless you are a college student, unemployed, or an elder living on a fixed income-which is understandable of course) then I feel 200 per couple is appropriate for the average middle class. After all weddings are expensive! Even a modest wedding is still expensive and most couples nowadays have to pay for their own! No offense but unless the above 3 circumstances apply to you... whoever gives only $ 50 is stingy!

It sounds like there is a pretty wide range. When I was single, usually $150-200 for wedding, $75-100 for shower, but more if I was in the bridal party. As a couple, usually $300-400 for wedding, but still $75-100 for shower. At all the weddings I've been to, I generally felt like I was pretty standard/average in the amount I was spending (all East coast, for what it's worth).
