How much time did you plan for your wedding processional?

Christina, on August 4, 2021 at 2:16 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 8

Working on our wedding timeline/ music and it's been tricky figuring out how much time I need for the processional before I walk down the aisle! It's a 40-50 foot aisle, and we're going to be seating one set of grandparents, two sets of parents, and then 5 sets of bridal party members will walk down the aisle.

Do you think we could get through all those people in about 3 minutes?

That’s why you rehearse. Keep in mind that you will walk slower than your normal pace. Every aisle is different so some will take a few seconds while others take a couple minutes. For a long aisle, I would imagine that would be the right time.

Hi Christina! You are very wise to think of this as this was the most stressful part of rehearsal for me! If your song has lyrics, mark which lyric each person begins to walk. Sounds strange, but practice at home with the music/timing. I wish I had done this ahead of time! Good luck ❤️

It's a bit hard to really know just because people have different strides and paces and depends on how many people are walking. that's kind of why some people have a rehearsal.

Of course we are having a rehearsal. but it will be the day of the wedding and the music needs to be picked out first.

    Thanks!

Start with a 2 minute song and cut down from that as you need to. Your dj can fade the song in/out as needed.

Thank you for asking this!! I am struggling with the same thing. I have a few songs picked out, but not sure what to pick for length and if I'll need 2 or just 1. Hoping my DJ will have all the answers lol

Pre covid, I attended weddings where each pair had the full length of the aisle to themselves, and weddings that when Pair #1 reached halfway down the aisle, the next pair would start to walk and follow the pace of the pair in front of them. This allowed more than one pair to walk the aisle at a time without looking rushed. You'd simply need to decide where the midpoint of the aisle is and communicate that to each pair during the rehearsal. Adjust the intervals to fit however many pairs you want to process at a time.

Similar to how runners let the slowest runner set the pace, see what timeframe your grandparents need for a nice headstart, say, to reach halfway down the aisle, then establish the intervals for everyone else off that.
