How much time did you take off around your wedding?

I am at a new job, and get only 5 days vacation this year. I have had to use two of them already - one for Thanksgiving weekend, and one for my younger sister's engagement (I flew home). I will have three days left to use around the wedding, on a Saturday & local. Should I talk to my boss about...

Should I talk to my boss about getting the entire week off, even if two are unpaid?

We will not be going on a honeymoon right away, and my time off resets in October.

I'm worried I may regret being rushed, or just not paying attention at work that week!

I'm taking Thursday off to get everything packed and pick up last minute things, we leave early Friday morning..our parents will meet us up north that afternoon , rehearsal, dinner, relax(hopefully) , Saturday is wedding day Smiley smile , Sunday everyone leaves except us-we'll stay probably 1-2 more days then make our way home...I'll probably go back to work that Thursday.

My wedding is on a Friday so I am taking the Thursday before, obviously Friday, and then 10 work days after! Can't wait! Guess being at your job for 7 years pays off Smiley smile

Just the 2 days before. I wanted time to do all the last minute stuff but also not have so much time I find things to worry about. Besides, being busy helps keep me on schedule.

Honestly I would take off as much as you can. Although it may suck not having anytime until October, you are only getting married once (hopefully) so might as well make sure you don't cut it too close and rush with things you have to do. Like someone else said, it also depends how DIY your wedding is. Will your boss let you decide close to the date? Or do you have to give notice? Maybe tell him you may need some extra time even if its unpaid and then decided the closer you get once you see whats on your to do list.

I talked to my friend who go married about a year ago and she said that taking the whole week off before the wedding was really nice and give her plenty of time to relax and get stuff done. Such as beauty appointments (tanning, nails, etc), and last minute details. I am doing the same. I am taking the week off before my wedding and the week after, for the honeymoon.

I would talk to your boss about options if you dont have enough PTO. Maybe, you can work from home? That way you could finalize details over the phone and work on DIY projects, if you have any. Most employers are reasonable if you explain the situation, they understand that this is a once in a life time event!!!!

I plan on taking the whole week before and the week after off. We're not doing a full blown honeymoon, but I figured we'd both appreciate some time to unwind. The wedding is out of town for us and, like you, I already know of guests who are making a trip out of it. So I'd like to be there for that.

But I have the vacation leave accrued for it (we get 5 weeks a year) and have already told my bosses that if they need me to work from home a few hours I'd be happy to. They're cool with it.

We're having a DW on a Thursday in Florida, but I'm taking off the Friday before and the whole week so I can go with the bridal party and some other friends to do Mardi Gras in New Orleans. After mardi gras, we're driving over to Florida and getting married, then driving home to Maryland. I'm taking two weeks in April-May for the honeymoon, then probably a day or two in July for our reception up in Buffalo.

I will be taking 3 days before and 5 days after for honeymoon all paid but should an emergency happen between now and then that requires me to take more days off then I will just leave with no pay for our wedding.

I'm taking off the Thursday and Friday before my Saturday wedding. I'm considering taking off Wednesday also. FH and I are then off the first two weeks of July athough the honeymoon is officially only 7 days. Fortunately I accrue paid leave each month and any unused leave rolls over to the next year so it will all be paid leave and I will still have plenty of leave left for other things like an extended maternity leave if we decide to start TTC shortly afterwards Smiley smile

I'm taking two days off after the wedding, we are allotted 3 personal days per year and I've already taken one. My wedding is on a Sunday, so I figured Friday evening and Saturday would be enough, and then I wanted to take the following two days off for a breather and to handle name change stuff. We won't be going on our honeymoon until the summer, and I'm off for the summer anyway.

I'll probably only work the Monday before my wedding, only so I can do payroll and then take the rest of the week off, then we are leaving the Monday after our wedding for our honeymoon. I figure it's the only time in my life that I'll be able to take this much time off of work without feeling guilty, I'm going to do it!

the place will be ready before our wedding but after we come back from our honeymoon FH is going back to work and i'll play a housewife for a week.

My wedding is on a Friday, I have 4 weeks of vacation that I can take, We will not be going on a honeymoon immediately after. I'm debating whether I should just take the entire week or just the Wednesday and Thursday, and then Monday and Tuesday of the following week.

I don't have paid vacation until I've been at my job for a year. My boss has been really easy to work with when it comes to time off. Last year I took a week long trip, and took off a couple fridays.

For the wedding I'm taking 6 days off (thursday-thursday) and then I will have Friday off for Good friday.
