How much time off?

Emma, on July 14, 2020 at 1:38 PM Posted in Planning 1 13
So I’m trying to figure this out ASAP so I can put in my request.
I work at a small daycare, my schedule is supposed to be 6:30am-330pm. Because of covid (a few teachers quit) I’m working 9am-6pm.
I am trying to figure out how much time to ask off before the wedding. Right now I am off the whole week after the wedding (paid vacation!) for our honeymoon. Wedding is on a Saturday. I was thinking of taking off Wednesday-Friday and working 6:30am-330pm Monday and Tuesday. I’m not sure how much time I’ll actually need off though. What would you recommend?

Im a teacher so i was trying to take as little time as possible. My wedding was on Sunday and I took off Thursday-Friday. We traveled Thursday, had bach and got our license on Friday, rehearsal Saturday, wedding Sunday. The week after was thanksgiving so I was off anyway. I wish I had more time off before the wedding as I did feel somewhat stressed and rushed. But it’s hard for me to have a sub and I only get 7 pto/sick days each school year, so it was the best I could do.

I would at least take off the Thursday and Friday before your wedding. I only planned on taking off Friday whereas everyone else was off Thursday and Friday for our wedding. I was getting so many phone calls and texts at work on Thursday that I could barely get anything actually done at work. My boss was super nice and let me leave early. Our wedding was 4+ hours from our house so I then drove to my parents house which is about 3.5 hours from where we live and where I was spending Thursday night. I didn't get there until about 6 pm so my mom and I were up late getting last minute things done. By 1 am we were really tired and didn't have everything done. Friday morning we went and got our nails done then I had lunch with my sister-in-law then rehearsal followed by dinner so there wasn't any time to work on things so we literally finished some stuff the morning of the wedding which was very stressful and I wouldn't recommend it.

I took wed-fri off before our wedding next month. That way I had time to get last minute things done but still have enough time to relax before the chaos of the wedding day.

That’s the reason I want to take off. I’m making my aisle markers and center pieces. They are babysbreath so I was planning to make them Thursday. I’d have a nail appointment and The rehearsal dinner Friday. My FHs family wants to get here the Monday before the wedding 🤦🏼‍♀️ I told his sister she’s more then welcome to come early (she’s a bridesmaid) but that I might be working at least Monday and Tuesday.

My original plan was to work a half day Thursday and just take off Friday. Now we’re supposed to be out of town the Saturday and Sunday before the wedding because of my brother’s navy retirement ceremony.

I’m a teacher getting married November 14 and plan on taking Thursday, Friday, and Monday off. Once looking at the calendar, I realized that I am actually off the Wednesday before, too, for Veterans Day!

I would definitely recommend taking at least 2 days prior to the wedding off, but 3 is even better. It will give you time to get last minute things done and ensure you have everything you need without feeling rushed.

Due to when my wedding and honeymoon are, I’m not taking any days off before the wedding.
Our hr department throws a fit if people take off before or after a holiday, so it’s going to be hrs enough to get the week of my honeymoon off.
Plus with all the covid and the sub shortage, I can’t guarantee that I’d have a sub for my classes
But if I wasn’t off on Election Day, I’d probably take the Friday before. The balancing act of finding days that my fiancé and I are both off to go get our marriage license has been bad enough.
Good luck with all your diy!

I would schedule at least Wednesday-Saturday off the week prior, if not the entire week. You’re going to need time to do things, but also to treat yourself and take some time for yourself.

My wedding is on a Sunday and while my childcare job is extremely flexible (I'm taking 3 weeks off starting from that Thursday), fiance's is a bit different. He's taking off that Thursday-Saturday before the wedding and has to somehow try to extend it into a month. His management hates it when he asks for time off (which rarely happens) so he's attempting to work all the hours he can up until then.
