Kelly, on December 21, 2018 at 1:05 PM Posted in Registry 0 21

As a wedding guest - how much money do you typically spend on a gift? Do you have a typical amount you normally spend? Does it depend on other factors like how close you are with the couple or how far you’re traveling for the celebration? How much money do you normally spend?

I usually spend $30 to $50 if I'm not very close to them. $70-150 if we are very close.

I think it depends but definitely not less than $100.

Our standard is $100 per person (so $200 total) for a friend and $150 per person ($300) for a family member. $200 per person ($400) for someone we are extremely close with. We live in NJ - I know these numbers can vary by region!

It all depends. I always try to cover the cost per person and if it's someone close to me, I'll give more. Being that I live in NY, that it's never less than $140.

It honestly depends on how close we are but I’d say no less than 50 for sure.

It definitely depends on how close my husband and I with the couple .. but normally we give 150-200 for each of us ( so 3/400) and if we’re close with them it’s usually 550-600 total.

Our standard is $100 per person, so $200 for the both of us. I think the least we've ever given is $125 for the both of us, but I was also doing a favor for the bride pet sitting her chinchilla while she was in town for the wedding so I considered that part of the gift.

We give $100-$150 for people we are close to, and $75-$80 for people we aren't as close with. For our siblings, we plan to give more when they get married, probably closer to $300. We live in a low-cost of living area. For our wedding, we got gifts between $20-$1000 but the average gift was probably $75 and I'm pretty sure the only gifts we got that were $100+ were from family or people that basically are family (with the exception of one of my dad's friends that was VERY generous and gifted us $400 worth of towels from our Crate and Barrel registry).

I typically give $100 no matter what. I think I remember hearing that the gift should equate to the price of the plate, but not sure if this is still a thing or not. I err on the side of caution and just give a standard $100 unless it is family where I might give a bit more.

I think it really depends if they are a close friend/ family member or not! If they are a close friend or part of my family, I typically spend around $50-100 for the shower and $100-250 for the wedding gift!

Depending on our relationship, anywhere from $100 to $200 per person invited.

It depends on the relationship and also how much I spent on travel and other events for the wedding (ie. destination bachelorette, shower gift). If I am shelling out 1K for a wedding, and you are a cousin, 50 is probably appropriate. Close friend 100, sibling a little more.

I am from a low cost of living area so 50 for a couple is normal (and 100 from a couple is considered good). People in NY/California/higher cost of living probably would find this cheap, but I dont think you should have to spend more if you are going to a wedding in a higher cost of living than you (and its ok to factor in travel costs).
