How much to tip?

Maggie, on February 22, 2020 at 12:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hey ladies, in need of some help: I pick up my dress from alterations tomorrow. I had gotten three layers of tulle and one layer of lace hemmed, three point over bustle, and cups added for $270. The person doing it has her own company that alters and designs formal dresses inside her home. How much should I tip her? I’ve gotten mixed messages about how I should tip her more because she does it all on her own, tip her less because she gets all of the money made except for what she puts back in supplies, don’t tip her at all because I paid for the service already. Help!

That’s a great deal! My dress didn’t even need hemming and I paid a little over $500! I had mine done at a bridal salon so it didn’t occur to me to tip. For a sole practitioner like her who is giving a heck of a deal I would tip at least 15 percent.

I actually couldn’t pick it up that day! The one bustle was slightly too high and apparently I lost weight! I’m going to give her $50 as a tip to the $270 as she is redoing the bustle for free and is also steaming the dress and the veil for me

I don't even recall giving my person a tip which I feel horrible about now in retrospect.
