how much weight to lose?

FutureMrs.D, on May 10, 2016 at 5:36 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 16

This is really random, but realistically about how much weight could a person lose in three months? Obviously this would vary from person to person but was wondering if anyone had ideas or personal experiences they could share?

I am no expert, but I feel like it's safe and realistic to lose two pounds a week, so I guess like 24?

A healthy amount of weight to lose is 1-2 pounds per week so in 3 months a person can reasonably lose 12-24 lbs.

Average healthy weight loss is 1 pound per week. Yes you may lose two some weeks, but you may also lose none other weeks. I would just plan on 1 pound & be happily surprised with any extra.

I took a nutrition class in college and was told a realalistic and healthy goal would be to lose around 1.5% of theor body weight each week.

2 lbs a week is very aggressive. Generally reserved for people who are carrying a lot more weight. If you are within in 10-15 lbs of goal weight. Odds are you're closer to 1/4 pound.

It's safe to estimate 1/2 to 1 lb. A week.up to the last month before your wedding..because fittings.

Keep in mind that losing weight and becoming healthier are great, but you want to be able to still wear your dress! I imagine you'll have final alterations, but sometimes if you lose too much, it really changes how the dress fits on you. While I would LOVE to lose around 50 pounds, I really only want to lose about 15-20 or I worry how my dress would fit me, even with alterations.

I have at least another 100 pounds to lose, but I've been losing about 2 pounds a week since January. Total weight loss so far: 37 pounds. Sometimes it's slower, sometimes it's faster.

But I'm focusing more on eating healthier. The weight is coming off because of that. When I focus on losing weight, I go crazy.

To clarify, I'm asking because I will be starting to try on dresses in about three months. I know some of you mentioned being concerned about fittings but I'm not quite at that stage yet. Thank you so much for everyone replying-I do appreciate it.

Jessica, I looked at your date and completely skimmed over the 2017 part. Then I also completely didn't math that May to July isn't 3 months. Smiley tongue Haha!

You go! Be safe and don't make yourself miserable. Stay healthy and don't for crazy crash diets and insane workouts.

1-3lbs is healthy. Depending on how overweight/out of shape you are, you may find it easy to lose at first but then plateau. 1lb is probably more realistic.

Also, please change your avatar to something other than the rings (your avatar isn't the same pic as the background of the app). Hey there! I am a certified trainer and your weight loss will depend on a lot of things...but to be honest - don't think about losing as much as you can in 3 months before you try on dresses! If you do that then you might bounce back and put on even more weight. Think about a long term goal...say a year since that will be when you are doing fittings, and aim for that. I know it's hard to picture yourself looking how you want to when you try on dresses, but I actually have lost about 10 lbs since I bought my dress and now I'm even more excited. If I loved it when I was at a less than ideal weight, it's going to look amazing now! Just try to think about it all (working out, losing weight, trying on dresses, wedding planning, etc.) as a positive thing!

Sorry about my avatar, I hadn't realized how to change it yet. LauraWhit-that is great advice. I have an ultimate goal for about a year from now, but I was wanting to break it into smaller goals with my first small goal being when I go to try on dresses for the first time. I was kind of just wondering what might be attainable (but also a challenge) for me to work towards in about three months.

I posted in another thread last week about how I lost 75 pounds in one year and have kept the weight off for 5 years.

It really depends on how much you currently weigh and how bad you currently eat. Like in my case, I was 200 lbs to start so the weight came off pretty steady once I adapted good eating habits.

If you're a healthy 135, and want to get down to 115 that will probably be more work because at 135 you're probably doing things right already!

Well this totally depend on one's motivation to lose weight. if you follow perfect diet plans, exercise and drink lots of water then you can lose weight as per your target. Losing excessive weight is not good for health so it is recommended to consult a dietician and follow the plans and lose weight as per the recommendation.

A pound a week with diet change and regular exercise is a safe. realistic attainable goal. Anything beyond that and you really should have a healthcare professional monitoring you. Extreme weight loss in a short amount of time can be dangerous so know your risks and how to avoid them.

Honestly though, stop looking at the scale. Weight itself doesn't really mean anything. Take your measurements and track them. It is possible to stay the same weight but lose inches.
