I'd put a list together of your guests and determine who you think drinks wine. I'd multiply that by 6 to be safe and divide that by 3.5. Example: 100 guests but only 70 are wine drinkers. 70 x 6 glasses each (estimate high) is 420 glasses. Divide by 3.5 (# of glasses per bottle) and you need 120 bottles of wine. I don't really think people drink 6 glasses of wine each but when it's free, people get a drink, put it down, misplace it and get another. Some may have 1-2 glasses... Most probably 4... But you don't want to run out.

For a second I forgot about context, and thought "depends on how bad your day was." But yeah, I have no idea. Robin's estimate sounds reasonable?

FYI... A bottle of wine 750mL is 4.5 glass of wine.

How many glasses is seriously going to depend on who is pouring. Who is bartending? Check with your liquor store to see if they buy back unopened bottles. If they do, go much heavier than you think.

We've got 120 guests, and 20 1.5L bottles of wine. (Merlot, Chardonnay and a white zin) Also having champagne and 4 kegs. We do have a professional bartender pouring, and our bar will only be open for about 3.5 hours so I'm hoping we'll be ok.

I am having the same issue right now as well! My friends wedding was 100 people and she got 24 bottles of wine. She did end up running out by the end of the night but it was so close to the end fo the wedding that it really wasn't that big of a deal.
