How Short to Hem My Dress

Stacey, on January 17, 2017 at 4:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I purchased my dress (Allure C288) and went in for my first alterations appointment. She recommended that they always hem the dress to be 1" off the ground. In all of the pictures I Google they are right down to the ground and I cannot imagine it being 1" shorter. I am wearing flats but would rather not make that obvious. Should I ask for it to be just above the ground or may just 1/2"? There is a lot of beading around the bottom hem so I do worry about it watching on stuff. Thoughts? (Picture included shows that I am also making the train a lot shorter).

On my dress, the slip was hemmed to be like right above my toe and the layers of tulle over it were hemmed to be just touching the floor.

Do all the other alterations before you alter the hem, and have your shoes and stand up tall.

Have the seamstress pin up the hem around the entire front so you can stand in front of a full length mirror. Make sure you have on the shoes you will be wearing and see if the hem is right for you. If you do not like at an inch, try a 1/2 inch, then a 1/4. Take someone who you really trust with you to get their opinion also. Good luck

Remember after having the dressed steamed it will stretch out a little more so maybe that is why she is wanting to take it higher than you want.
