How Soon After Your Wedding Will You Be Leaving For Your Honeymoon?

When are you planning to take your honeymoon? Some people leave the night of the wedding, some leave the next day, others within a few weeks/months, or some prefer to wait until their first anniversary! How long after your wedding do you plan to leave for your honeymoon?

We leave on our honeymoon the Monday after the wedding.

Our wedding is about 1.5 hours home so we're staying three nights at our accommodation (Friday, Saturday - wedding night - and Sunday night) returning home Monday. Then I think we leave for our honeymoon on monday afternoon or possibly tuesday.

Our original wedding date was Feb 2021. We planned on leaving for our honeymoon the week after but changed it to our 1 year anniversary, Feb 2022. We were forced to postpone our wedding to August. We kept Feb 2022 for but it's just no longer our 1 year celebration. Instead of a year later, it's 6 months.

Our wedding is on a Saturday and we will
Be leaving the Wednesday after and returning Saturday/Sunday. Since we paid the wedding ourselves and in the process of purchasing a home, we decided we’ll save for a big honeymoon for next year and give our pockets a break lol.

I’m getting married September 23rd, 2022. I honestly won’t know about the honeymoon until I “bid” for my vacation in December 2021. In my job we have to bid for our vacations by seniority. Depending on my team, position, I may not even getting my wedding week off. I hope to have it somewhat close, but not sure how it’s going to pan out.

Our wedding is Jan 2nd and we will leave on the 9th for a week. My Fiancé wanted to do some work in between to fill his pockets back up after the wedding.

We left for our honeymoon nearly a full month after our wedding (due to our work schedules)

We didn't take ours for 5 months.

Between our jobs, which are harder to get away from in summer months, and our destination (Disney World), August was a SUPER TERRIBLE time to go. So... we waited until winter, when it was easier and more affordable to get away, not to mention... absolutely frozen at home, and downright pleasant in Florida. (Of course it was the coldest week Florida had seen in a decade, but it was STILL way warmer than home!)

Our wedding is on Saturday and we are planning to leave on Thursday. I don't want to leave the next day, as I agree with the prior posts that I want time to recover. But, we also can't get a nonstop flight to our honeymoon location until Thursday night, so Thursday it is!

Oh my gosh, I don't think I could wake up that early the day after my wedding, even if it is to leave for my honeymoon! I'd almost definitely miss my flight, lol. I think having a couple days for a buffer makes sense. Gives time to recover from the craziness of the previous week, but is close enough to the wedding where the celebratory feeling is still strong.

That makes sense! I'd totally do the same thing, flight prices can be ridiculous!

For sure! Plus flight pricing and timing all come into the equation too, but things will work out somehow, lol.

It was awesome (although I would have preferred a noonish flight vs. 9am) but I can't imagine coming down from the high of the wedding, then settling into real life for a few days or weeks, then going on vacation. To me it wouldn't have felt like a honeymoon, just a vacation. Which is still nice, but not the same imo!

I love the idea of celebrating your one month anniversary on your honeymoon!! It's a great way to unwind from the wedding craziness and return to "normal" for a little bit, but also having another big event shortly afterwards to look forward to. Are you going to the same honeymoon destination as you had planned to go to for your original date?

I think that's a great idea! Also gives time to recover from the week of the wedding and take some downtime before running off to a honeymoon.

I know! Flight would be around 7 and the airport is two hours away. With security and everything, we’d have to wake up super early. Definitely not gonna happen. The flight from us is one stop. But from an airport about five hours away is nonstop. So we’ll be sleeping in til check out of our wedding night hotel, driving down to the airport a few hours away and staying in that city so our flight is non stop the next day. I hate lay overs. They’re always so stressful. So that’s our plan!

Hopefully travel restrictions aren't as strict by the time you leave for your honeymoon so that it doesn't get postponed!! Those reasons make sense as to why you scheduled your honeymoon for when you did. Very cool that you're planning something fun to make new year's more enjoyable!

Thanks! I was a little bummed at first not going right after the wedding, but I also don't want to be *that person* at work who dips out for 2 weeks during the busiest month of the year. And yes, going to the same place - Hawaii! We only had flights booked by the time we decided to postpone, so it was a pretty easy change.

Awesome! Good idea to consider the work schedules/vacation time before booking the honeymoon. The nice part will be that you'll have a big event to look forward to for a few months after the wedding!
