The sooner the better has been my saying. The sooner you book someone the longer they have to help you plan. This makes it easier to ensure that you get the vendors you want at a price you want/can afford. I started planning back in October/November 2009 and we are getting married September 2011. The closer we have gotten to our date the more and more hassle it has become to find vendors who aren't booked already. So if I were you I would definitely start looking for your planner asap.

Oh how I wish more brides would ask this question! Sooner is better because we can save you time, money & effort. We can help you can take advantage of sales and specials if we have ample time in advance of your wedding. Around here venues and top photographers book a year or more out, so why not have your planner involved sooner rather than later. Please understand, there may not be constant contact that far out, but a good planner will keep her eyes and ears open for you and let you know when something interesting appears on the radar.

Like with any vendor--if you find want you want to hire, do so right away. The more you put it off, the less help they can provide. You could always find a few you're interested in and at least meet even if you wait to hire them until the spring.

    Hi Jessica,

I have to agree with the Ladies the sooner the better, however some planners dont contract outside of 18 months.

When I first got engaged we set our date and were 18 months out, all the planners we interviewed requested that we hold off on hiring a planner till we got closer to about one year prior to your event.

    Good Luck!!
