How tight is too tight?

KDS, on May 9, 2016 at 8:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

I had my second dress fitting last week and I'm worried that my dress is too tight. It is a trumpet shape, so it is meant to be form fitting. However, I couldn't even bend over to do the strap on my shoe. She's going to let the dress out in the hips so that I can sit more comfortably, but I'm slightly worried that I'm going to embarrass myself by not being able to bend over to pick something up if needed.

I couldn't bend in my dress and had a mermaid. But I wasn't planning to have to be bending and moving in my dress super well. You're the bride. People will help you out all night and move out of your way. You just have to be able to breath and walk and sit comfortably Smiley smile

Does someone else buckle your shoes? Ha, I was so embarrassed that I couldn't even reach the strap of my shoe. I felt like a pregnant lady. She had me sit down, but I still couldn't do it.

You need to be able to sit comfortably. If you drop something someone weeks can get it for you

Oh man, I am all about comfort. If I couldn't bend over in my dress I would be miserable the entire evening. Make sure you have some damn comfy shoes Smiley smile

Mine is a similar shape, and I made sure that I could breathe and sit down at my fitting on Saturday. As long as I can still do those things, my dress will be as tight as possible. If I drop something the day of, it will either stay in the ground or someone else will have to pick it up!

I have a mermaid and have the same problem. Can't sit. Can't bend. Still trying to figure out how to leave the venue...

Wow, I do imagine this would be common. I only tried on one mermaid style gown and I found it extremely restrictions, I can imagine how frustrating it must be not being able to bend over, but I think that's kind of how those dresses are. Hopefully once she let's it out at the waist you will be able to sit comfortably. I would say that's the main thing. I'm sure you'll be on your feet a good chunk of the day and people will help you out otherwise Smiley smile

I am in the same boat. My dress is so fitted that I can't bend over and I'm not sure if I'll be able to sit but I didn't attempt that the last time I tried the dress on. Lord help me lol

    Mine's mermaid.

My seamstress made sure I could sit comfortably in my mermaid - she even gave me pointers, like angling myself slightly and shooting my butt backward so that I'm able to rest my back against the backrest! You should definitely be able to sit. However, in terms of picking things up and even doing up your shoes - you're the bride, you get to have people help you if you need it on your wedding day! Smiley smile

I wore a mermaid and my mom had to put my shoes one. It was actually pretty funny. It was really hard to sit at first but the more I moved in my dress the more it stretched out a bit. By the end of the night I could dance and sit no problem. It will be a little stiff at first but I wouldn't be too worried. And you don't want it too loose.

Definitely make sure you can at least sit while wearing your dress.

It's a little hard for me to sit but not impossible. Like PP have said I'm hoping it loosens up just a tad bit. I definitely don't want it too loose and for it to look funny. I think you'll be ok

Good point about the peeing. I tried to hike my dress up over my rear and that wasn't going to happen.

I think it depends on what makes you feel comfortable! I tried on several trumpet/fit and flare/mermaid gowns that made my figure look amazing (oh hey- Im not just a blob and do have a waist and hips!) but I knew I would be uncomfortable in that style for an extended period of time. So I went with an a-line for more breathing and wiggle room. I hope it's altered in a way that works for you!

Haha @Staci I was just about to make a comment about that.

I dont think I would be able to have a dress I couldn't sit in or move in. Then again I didn't try to sit in mine but it's a drop waist ball gown so I should be okay... I think. Mine is a corset back so that sucker is going to be as tight as I can make it without feeling like I'm going to pass out.

@FutureMrsHawks - just make sure you sit down in it once the corset is tied to make sure you WON'T pass out. Sitting down makes corsets fit tighter, so you may not want to make it the tightest you can make it. My friend found that out the hard way - couldn't sit down the whole wedding!
