How to Add Skulls/Skeletons to Decor Tastefully?

Pancakes, on July 29, 2015 at 9:05 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 55

I know this is not everyone’s tastes, but I am trying to incorporate skulls or skeletons into our wedding while still having it be a formal event and not a Halloween party. I also do not feel like spending any more money. So ideas that would cost under $300 would be appreciated. We are having probably around 220 guests, so it will not be associated into a favor. Our escort cards will double as the favor (see below). Our wedding color is purple, but there will also be orange. Attached to here are pictures of the venue. It is called “The Crystal Room” and yeah it’s a little outdated but when it’s dark it looks nice with all the crystals and lights Smiley smile

But, do you have any ideas on how to incorporate skulls/skeletons into our wedding but still have it be elegant? It would make me very happy!

Here are our centerpiece ideas right now. We are having family style dining, so we can’t take up that much room on the table. Thinking of maybe making little tent cards (like standard escort cards) and putting skeletons on them and say the table number? The table cloth will be white and the napkins will be probably be purple. We will not be having chair covers.

Here is my bouquet and FH’s bout. The girls will have orange bouquets (same fake flowers, but orange) and the boys will have orange bouts. The girls will be in purple dresses and the guys will be in grey suits.

Also this is what our escort cards look like. They will be in a photo strip frame. The girls get purple ribbons and the guys get orange ribbon. They all will have a small silver pumpkin charm on the ribbon (for some reason I can’t find the picture of the competed one put together).

Yes, I loved Ruth's centerpieces! But don't want to spend the money to change out some centerpieces since the lanterns were already purchased. I am going to check out Michaels this weekend, though. I think they started putting out their Fall/Halloween stuff.

I found this while searching the Internets and thought this was extremely beautiful. Might try to do something like that, but a smaller version and done at home, for table numbers. If I can't think of anything else.

I found these on etsy and thought they were pretty cool looking, without being too over-the-top.

I did a quick search for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) party decor, because the famous sugar skulls are a fancier version of the typical skulls, and I thought they might offer an option that would keep it classy... I love these paper garlands - you could also detach them from the string, and use them as an element? At $4, def cost effective. http://www.partycity.com/product/day+of+the+dead+party+supplies.do

Skeleton-factory.com also sells mini-skulls, 3x2", by the bag - they could be placed 1 per table, and are so petite, they wouldn't take up space, or you could sprinkle them on the gift table, card table, etc.? $5 for a bag of 9.

If you do the escort cards decoration, I think the skull pattern shown in the Dia de los Muertos garland would be actually very pretty as a decoration, and keeping it white and black - a simple outline design- wouldn't clash or compete with your decor.

Skull charm hanging from the ribbon of the candle. Put a ribbon/charm on both centerpieces

You could incorporate skulls in the centerpiece maybe spray paint skulls in silver or if you can find inexpensive ones already in silver that would be neat. Your idea for place cards/table numbers is great as well. I think that table number is great!!!

Not decor per say but maybe some subtle touches, like toasting flutes (https://www.etsy.com/listing/****/mr-mrs-sugar-skull-couple-set-2-wine?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=sugar skull&ref=sc_gallery_1&plkey=9a4114c****d53ebb56d1965a7a229ae9062:**** OR https://www.etsy.com/listing/129026252/two-2-day-of-the-dead-wedding-toasting) and a cake topper?

Pancakes where did you get the flowers? I'm using lanterns as well and I like the way the flowers look around it. Are they fake?

Oh wow, Pancakes! I'm generally not a fan of Halloween decor (which is why I'm no help for advice on your main question, so sorry) but just wanted to pop on and say even my un-Halloween-loving self is impressed with how pretty and classy your centerpieces (and decor in general) are so far. Can't wait for the BAM to see how it all turns out. Smiley smile
