How to Add Skulls/Skeletons to Decor Tastefully?

I know this is not everyone’s tastes, but I am trying to incorporate skulls or skeletons into our wedding while still having it be a formal event and not a Halloween party. I also do not feel like spending any more money. So ideas that would cost under $300 would be appreciated. We are having probably around 220 guests, so it will not be associated into a favor. Our escort cards will double as the favor (see below). Our wedding color is purple, but there will also be orange. Attached to here are pictures of the venue. It is called “The Crystal Room” and yeah it’s a little outdated but when it’s dark it looks nice with all the crystals and lights Smiley smile

But, do you have any ideas on how to incorporate skulls/skeletons into our wedding but still have it be elegant? It would make me very happy!

Thank you, everyone, for your help and tips. I know that skulls are not your typical thing at a wedding and it will be difficult to incorporate it in the right way to make sure it is still nice looking. Right now it looks like my best option is to use the table card tents like I posted a picture of because they are skulls, yet also more formal and not a Halloween decoration.

@Kaylie - I got the roses and the calla lilies on ebay and yes, they are both fake. They both look surprisingly good in person. The roses are more fake looking in person, but they look better than the listing, in my opinion. I wanted something that we can sell afterwards.

    Roses: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231027060751?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=530375736475&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

@lolsenn - Didn't think about candles. I already bought all of the 4" candles for the lanterns, but I'll look into it. Thanks.

@Randi - Thanks. I'm terrified that our whole wedding will be horrendous to the WW community, but I'm trying to make it reflect us. And this is us. FH proposed on Halloween with a coffin ring box. That is who we are and what we love so I want to incorporate it, but we also both feel that weddings are formal events. And finding ways to incorporate them probably is proving difficult.

@Celia - As Tina said, it means something to us. And I completely understand that people will be making faces at my post and saying "But..... why....?" because this is not for everyone. I am looking to the Forums to help me figure out how to do it classy and formal so it doesn't end up looking like crap! I've always been fascinated with bones and it would take days to explain why, but it's not in a creepy death way. But more of me seeing the beauty in the fact that we all are just bones underneath. If you watch the tv show Bones, I feel like Brennan about Bones.

Thank you, everyone. I really do appreciate the help on this very strange request!

The flowers look great! Hard to tell they're fake, I basically just assumed since you already have them.. Lol. I love the theme, it's unique and special to you and that's awesome.

It was a simple question, no judgement, no harm, no foul. If someone had posted how to include clown noses or antique cameras, I'd probably ask the same thing.

We also have a theme that would make some people cringe Smiley smile but it represents a small part of us. I hope everything in your wedding turns out well!

I really like the napkin with the two skeleton hands that Tina posted. Those are formal but definitely have the Halloween tone you're going for.

I am actually confused on the napkin part because I assumed the venue was taking care of those since they said everything to deal with the bar (mixers, glasses, bartenders, etc) and the napkins are being provided for the dinner! I will check with them. I do like that design in purple. It's more fun than formal, which is acceptable at the bar!

Our friends had paper coasters at the bar that said something like "I'm on the dance floor, please don't take my drink" but in a more fun way. I thought that was clever because staff always clears drinks too early and don't know which to clear. So I am going to ask him how he made them and maybe do them for ours with a dancing skeleton couple, or something.

Again, just looking for subtle touches. A few friends have mentioned to me they would be disappointed if I hadn't found a way to incorporate skulls, since that is who I am. But I've been planning without them to make sure other people find my decor acceptable. But maybe I should start thinking about ourselves more Smiley smile

These would be your cocktail napkins for the bar. I wouldn't buy them though if the venue is providing them. I'm sure you could find other similar things.

@Ana - why can you dish it, but not take it? Every post of yours I've come across in the last few days is so negative and/or confrontational. I'm not sure why you continue to post in these forums, you don't seem to like the people on here. Maybe the knot would be more your speed and people.

@Pancakes - I love this. FW thinks my obsession with Sugar Skulls and Dia de los Muertos is weird but she totally embraces it every once in awhile. A few weeks ago, she even came home from being on the road with a sugar skull keychain from me.

I love the photo you attached with the sugar skull in black/purple table number.

I was just in Michael's yesterday and they have a million and one Halloween items out now. Plenty of ideas.

    ETA:

I think you can definitely do it tastefully and without it seeming like a Halloween party if you do small elements like you said. The key is just a little, no overkill. Bounce ideas off of us if you think it might be too much : )

I know you said no favor stuff. But here's mine anyway Smiley smile

My future mother in law is making lollipops (she used to have business making them) and I'm putting these stickers on the packaging. I got them on zazzle

What about décor for your escort card table? Do you have that set up? What about your bar area? Are you having a sweetheart or head table? What about the card box(or are you not having one)?

Oh Pancakes! I'm excited for you to add skulls now!

You could buy or make a sugar skull piñata in your colors and cut a slit in it for a card box

If you already got the candles for the centerpieces maybe you could put some around the alter or cake table or something!

I forgot we need to decorate the escort card table! But the bar probably can be plain. The card box has already been borrowed from a friend. It's a large black box that fits an 8x10 picture on each side and a 4x6 on top by the slot. And it locks. It's cute and she's letting us borrow it.

@Future Mrs BH - Haha. Yeah, it's moreso me, but FH knows (along with everyone else) it's a huge deal for me. My Christmas presents are almost all Halloween stuff, no joke.

@Pancakes - I'm in love with Halloween, it's my favorite holiday...nothing compares in my book. I absolutely love that you're using orange and purple, I think they play well. Every time I tell people that I'm using those colors they look at me crazy.

Here's some ideas for skulls I found. I know they have the bejeweled one at Michael's you can also get one of the plain ones they have and glitter it up. I think it might be cool to do something with the skulls and a few pumpkins on your escort card table. Black lace runner could be cute on the table with skulls in between.

    The rest....

Also, are you using the up-lighting in purple?

I think if you stay away from the cobwebs and spiders you'll convey the right feeling.

Then you would appreciate the ring box FH got for me when he proposed on Halloween 2013!

I was thinking maybe getting a real pumpkin and real flowers from the grocery store and doing that thing on Pinterest where the pumpkin is like a vase for the flowers. That is simple and relatively cheap. I love something like this tree decoration, but it seems like too much work to get together. Maybe it won't be as bad for just the escort card table, though.

Also, not a fan of the glittery skulls. But I will check out Michael's this weekend!

Oh my God! I wish my FW was as creative as your FH. Absolutely best ring box!

I have an obsession with bedazzling/crystals on everything so I tend to put it on everything including skulls. Hahaha.

I think the trees would be easy if it was just for the escort card table. The pumpkin would be nice though especially to tie in with the pumpkin charm. If you go with the pumpkins go with purple flowers for sure.
