How to answer the question "what do you want?"

Nope. People have been giving gifts even without a registry for years. You've gone to the trouble to create a registry. Why should they insist that you create in effect a separate registry just for them?

I think your answer is fine too. If you're not happy with the answer, or if they push & you want to say something different, you could say anything is fine, but you're really excited about furnishing a kitchen, or you especially love all the bathroom stuff you registered for...something that narrows it down but doesn't get too specific. Just a thought.

Were these people born yesterday or have they never attended a shower? It's kind of common sense to just know people have a registry and to look there instead of bugging the bride about it! :-) your answer was perfect.

That's the same answer I gave my FMIL when she told me to give her 5 ideas EVEN IF THEY WEREN'T ON MY REGISTRY. gahhhhhh really?!?! That's the reason I MADE A REGISTRY! I didn't want to answer those questions!
