How to ask a wedding venue to allow you to change the date?

Rebecca, on October 12, 2018 at 12:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
We booked the venue of our dreams 2
months ago and paid a $1000 deposit. Since we have a small budget, that is a lot for us. BUT I just found out that I am pregnant and my due date is 4 days after the wedding. I want to move my wedding but I’m scared of losing the deposit. What would be the best way to approach the venue?

Explain your situation and ask them if they have another date available.
    Congratulations by the way.
I am sure they have plenty of circumstances where people have life events that are just more important that one date.
    Good luck!

Just call them and explain your situation.

I don’t know if it was a nonrefundable deposit or not.

Even if it was, you can change the date.

    Good luck 🍀

Congrats on the wedding and the baby! I just went through changing my date this week. Reference your contract first, then all you can do is ask. Our contract stated that we could move our date without losing our deposit, but if the pricing had changed since we signed our original contract, we would be responsible for the new price. If your contract specifies that you lose your contract when changing the date, I wouldn’t expect your venue to have much sympathy and break that rule for you. Unfortunately, that’s how they make money. It doesn’t seem that you have much of a choice outside of changing the date though, with or without losing your deposit.

A lot of places can push your date out. However if 1k is already a lot for you do you truly think you can still afford that venue in full once you’ve got a baby also.

Very exciting!!! Where. I work we will change the date if it’s opened for no charge if the same room. There will be a fee involved if you move to one with a higher venue fee and higher minimum guest count.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Oh my gosh babies are awesome 😁😁

i wouldnt worry about losing your deposit, people understand things happen. If you are still going to book there, I don’t see an issue of why they wouldn’t move it, especially if you explain the situation.

If you are worried, maybe try talking to a female there, because she might be more understanding about the situation. But I think either way, you are fine.

Read your contract and see what it says. If we changed anything about the date or even the time, we lose all payments and deposits made.

Congrats!!! Such exciting news! Smiley heart

Don't stress out too much yet - just call the venue and see what you can do! If you have another specific date in mind they might just be able to switch your date and move the deposit over!

You’ll just have to tell them and ask. My venue will let me change the date if it’s in the same calendar year. We had to make sure bc my fiancé could possibly deploy, although it’s unlikely.

I had to change my date as well and I just checked the contract and followed the directions in it for changing. In my case I could change up to the week before without fees as long as the new date was available (no frills venue - only get the room nothing else), I just had to contact the booking agent and check on the availability of the new date. They sent a new contract that just had the date changed and initialled and we initialled it as well and sent it back.

    Congratulations!

Call your venue and explain the situation. They will let you know what they can (or cannot) do for you.
