How to ask for honeymoon money in place of gifts

Meghan, on January 19, 2020 at 5:51 PM Posted in Registry 0 10
Hi! I'm trying to figure out the best way to ask for money to book our honeymoon in place of gifts for the wedding.

We have everything we need for our house already and can't think of anything else we need or want.
Is it tacky to as for money in place of gifts? Do you put it on one of the insert cards in the invitation? Wording (without sounding like we're begging for money and nothing that rhymes)?

Don’t register and people will give you cash gifts. Gifts shouldn’t be mentioned anywhere on your invitations.

Some people I know have been to weddings where they set up a honeymoon fund website and guests pay into that. That way they money can be deposited into our accounts and its available for when you book your honeymoon.

Most people will give a cash or check if you don’t register. There are honeymoon funds websites but they take a percentage of what is given. In my experience people don’t give money before the wedding so if you’re relying on this money to book the trip you’ll need to do a delayed honeymoon.

That's good to know. Thank you Kelly! I wasn't sure how it all works out. I have found one that does not take any percentage of the money.
I wasn't sure if I should still have a bridal shower and maybe people can do it then or just at the wedding when they either send money or a check. I wasn't planning on doing a bridal shower since we weren't asking for gifts.

I wouldn’t do a bridal shower for monetary gifts, most people view that as rude. If someone offers to host one I would turn them down. And having a honeymoon fund for the wedding is fine as long as you don’t reference it on your invitations. At our wedding everyone brought cash or check so it’s definitely a know your crowd thing on if people will use a fund type site!

Definitely don’t mention gifts/money/registry anywhere on your invites- that’s tacky. If you want money, don’t make a registry. People will give you money or will pick something out for you. If you have a couple of things you’d like, make a small registry. In the end, those that want to give you money will give you money. Those that don’t want to give cash gifts won’t.

They all take a percentage. They're a business and that is how they make their money. Either they take it off the top from the giver or the recipient right away or they charge a fee to transfer it to your bank account. Don't register and people will give you cash. Heck, we did have a registry, and people used it for the shower, but every guest but 1 gave cash/check at our 110 person wedding. People know cash is a good gift. And yes, if you are looking to book your honeymoon with it, you will have to take a delayed honeymoon because people will more than likely not give a wedding gift before the wedding.

Just don't register and people will know to gift cash Smiley smile if you don't have a physical gift registry, you'll have to skip a bridal shower or couples shower though.

I had a honeymoon fund and put it on my wedding website. but i must say most people were inclined to give us cash rather than putting money into the fund
