How to ask for money in a classy way?

So, my fiancé and I already live in an apartment together- we have plenty of furniture, linens, pots and pans etc, from my great grandmother who passed two years ago. We would really like money as a gift, to help go towards a down payment for a home. I was wondering how others have noted this before...

We would really like money as a gift, to help go towards a down payment for a home. I was wondering how others have noted this before or how I can go about it? I hate how tacky it sounds but I truly don’t need any more linens or pots and pans. My mom had mentioned something about noting in the invitation in a clever way that doesn’t seem too tacky. Thanks for any help!!!!

We are in the same boat, we bought a house a few years ago and have everything we need. I may register for a few items to upgrade to something nicer but it will be small. We don't want to be rude but also we don't want to be wasteful and get things we really dont need. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but someone told me you can strategically register at places that will give you cash back for your returns - it could be a lot of work but could be a way to eventually get the cash.

This is what my wedding website says,

We are so excited to be able to share our special day with you; whether you are attending or sending us your love from afar. We are beyond blessed to have a home that has more than anything that we could ever ask for. In lieu of material things we would love to focus more on experiences; between us and all of you. Nothing is expected, but if you’d like to donate to our honeymoon to Thailand, we have arranged different funds that would go towards activities over there including flights, dinner dates, excursions, and the like! We look forward to sharing our big day with you all!

We really do not want STUFF, we live in a 800 sq ft condo in a ski town, so moving into a big home is not in our NEAR future... We did add a couple things to our zola registry that are like a new coffee maker, a blender, some cabernet sauvignon wine glasses and copper mugs.
