How to cover a large area burn

Emly, on May 20, 2019 at 10:33 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 14
Ok guys hang in there with me as I try to explain this 😂
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis along with a list of other health problems and because of that I dont have very good circulation in my lower legs, therefore, I lose feeling and some sensations I can't feel. This winter in MN was BRUTAL lol so I constantly had my little heater on under my desk at work, well because I can't feel much around my ankle over the past few months I've slowly developed a burn.. Iknow it sounds crazy but I truly didn't realize it was happening and didn't notice until I went to shave my legs last month (ok girls dont act like I'm the only one who hasn't shaved all winter 😂). I'm having my engagement photos taken in a few weeks and I am wanting a way to either A) heal the area, which side note- since I dont have very good circulation things dont heal very quick.. I noticed this a month ago and it still looks just as bad.. or B) find a makeup that will cover it. I've tried with my makeup and you can still see the burn though it.. or C) wear some boots to cover it? I really want to wear a dress but this thing is so ugly 😂

I just want to say too, I have had my medical condition checked out and I am fine so thats no issue. My mom is a nurse and she took a look at my burn and she recommended I use coconut oil, so I've been doing that daily with little result..

I can post a picture if anyone would like more of a visual but I didn't feel it was appropriate just to post a pic of my gross burnt ankle on here 😂 just picture a really dark splotchy bruise at the base of the ankle to about mid calf.

Thanks for any advice on my weird situation 😂❤

Hi! I have really bad eczema on my legs and as a result I almost always have a variety of marks/redness/scars on my legs. For my boudoir shoot I just did my best not to think about it and then spoke with my photographer about smoothing everything out in post-edit.

Your best bet to cover it for the shoot is to wear the boots, but alternative shoot your photographer a quick note and ask her about editing it out / choosing poses that hide it a bit.

I'd go with pants or boots to cover it. Make-up may lead to an infection that is not worth it. There is also Photoshop which can smooth these things out but we're all familiar with what happens with bad Photoshop.

So your best answer is wear cool boots.

Cowboy boots and dresses are super common where I am. So I wouldn't think twice about it.
I just generally hate my ankle/foot area so I'm also thinking boots. (Though I cannot pull off cowboy boots)
I know regular aloe lotion works great for me on sunburns, but I dont know if that would help considering you've probably been burnt for a while.

If your burn is healed & just discolored, so you can put makeup on it, try Dermablend - their coverage is ridiculous, it covers tattoos, spider veins & everything in between. Look it up, they have formulas with different level of coverage, so you can find what suits you best.

Mederma is helpful if you have scarring tissue from the burn. Coconut oil & aloe are good for keeping it moisturized & for soothing, but will not do much for fading the burn. Vitamin E oil is also excellent for this.

Aloe!! Preferably fresh leaves off the plant. I burned my pinky pretty good baking the other day and it hurt like crazy until I got a fresh aloe leaf to rub on it. The burn almost completely disappeared within 24 hours. I imagine it won't be as effective since your burn isn't new but it would be the first thing I'd try. Maybe a garden center might have some Aloe plants?

What about wear a long dress that would cover the bruise?

That's what I was thinking too, cowboy boots and a dress. My legs are just stubby to say it best lol so sometimes it can look odd. I may just have to suck it up and do it though lol

The boots are a great idea and also cute. If you can’t do that, makeup is a great idea, maybe speak to a makeup artist or someone at Ulta or Sephora for some recommendations. Also, speak with your photographer and ask about photoshopping the color in that area.

I've been a burn nurse for almost 12 years so I'm glad you have someone to visualize it. The most important thing is to keep it clean, keep yourself nurished (with protein & calories) & hydrated. I'm surprised the doctor didn't recommend an antibiotic cream. If it's weepy youre definitely going to want to keep it covered but it doesn't sound that bad. They make make-up to cover tattoos - I'd give that a shot

I've been disappointed with using make-up to cover scars, personally. I have some pretty gnarly ones on my leg from tons of orthopedic surgeries and tried something stupidly expensive the salesperson at Sephora swore they used in Hollywood to cover up tattoos. Well, I'm not a makeup artist, so maybe user error? A MUA will be able to do a better, more concealing job applying it.

My leg is pitted with scars. Some are from the last few years and I'm still learning to 'own' them. They're part of me, right??

For my e-shoot, I picked a maxi dress so I wouldn't have to stress about it. Plus, looking at engagement pics on Instagram, it seems like long, flowy dresses are on trend right now!
