How to dry branches for centerpiece decoration

Deanna, on March 15, 2011 at 5:33 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 2

I have a bunch of tree branchs in the back yard from them being cut down this winter due to power line problems. My question is how do I dry these branchs out? It is still winter so they are dead branchs, but wet due to snow. I want to use them for my centerpieces. Is there a proper way to dry them out? I don't want a bug infestation if I try drying them in the basement. Thanks

I would go on save on crafts and buy branches. They are only a dollar or two each. I think your branches cannot be used since they are wet. It is worth the money to make sure they are not rotten and no have them filled with critters.

Dry moist branches and leaves in glycerin and water. Add 1/2 teaspoonful of glycerin to a vase with water, stir and add branches. Wait about a week for the branch to draw the glycerin up into the leaves and then take the branches out of the mixture for your arrangement. In the meantime, the branch in the vase with glycerin makes a nice arrangement on its own.
