Feel free to chime in if you have any ideas! I know a few of us on here are of the mindset that you might as well save money on a wedding dress, if you can. I just wanted to share a few of my ideas.
- Go somewhere like Lulus or ASOS for a wedding dress under $200. Here's a $30 dress that would be great for a meadow or beach wedding. https://www.asos.com/us/collusion/collusion-tiered-cami-smock-midi-dress/prd/11764840?clr=white&colourWayId=16372492&SearchQuery=&cid=9979
- Search Etsy for either a handmade gown, or do a search with vintage gowns, entering your hip/ chest dimensions. You can also do a search for sizes, like Medium and Large. Vintage gowns tend to have a lot of styles available for ladies with smaller chests. However, it's still worth looking for something that was made for you, because you can save a lot of money.
- If you can get your hands on a simple white maxi spaghetti strap or tube top dress, another thing you can do is get on Etsy and find a duster or lace bed robe to put over the dress. They're usually under $40, and give you an elegant Edwardian layered look.
-Another thing you can do with a plain maxi is put a sweater over the top, if you're doing a winter wedding. You can really find an inexpensive white sweater anywhere, and can look at vintage sweaters if you want something more detailed, but not too pricey.
-If worse comes to worse, you can always hit up a Salvation Army and buy an old wedding dress. Then, have it altered so it doesn't look dated. Salvation Army also organizes their clothing by color, so if you're looking for a white sweater, might as well see what you can find.
-Ask a female relative if you can wear her wedding dress. Then, ask for alterations as a wedding present. I mean, there's at least a 50% chance this will work, so might as well try it!
-Finally, if you're looking for a short wedding dress or elopement dress on Etsy, there are a ton of them, and they tend to run around $30. If you'd rather be adorable than grand, this can be a good way to go.
Also, I don't know why, but my experience has been that vintage stores tend to charge a lot for wedding dresses. You could go to one and still spend $800 pretty easily. The exception is if you go to an antique market that happens to have some vintage clothing.
