How to get rid of 'muffin top' over bra?

Private User, on September 4, 2015 at 10:19 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

So I went to my first alterations appointment and the dress more than fits (probably needs to be taken in a bit), but the bra/shapewear is SUPER TIGHT. I got it from David's and the lady took my measurements and ordered it based on those, but when I put it on I get back spillover, which I don't like at all. How do I get rid of 'back fat' (I've never had a problem with it before in my life until now!)?

I have the same problem so can someone enlighten us. Not that it will make a difference for me in only two weeks.

My seamstress doing my alterations recommended no bra (my dress is pretty structured already, but she's going to add even more boning to reinforce)...they can also sew in cups to most dresses so a bra isn't needed. I went to my first fitting with the type of shapewear that is like a pair of bike shorts but comes up really high. She said to ditch that and if I felt like I absolutely needed the shapewear for the tummy area to get a panty style rather than the one that comes up so high, due to it pushing the skin and causing that bunched up look. So maybe just a different style of shape wear would help?

Honestly, your best bet is to get shapewear that fits. Other than that, the best way to lose back fat is to lose weight in general or at least work on toning up your upper body. Think shoulder press, biceps, triceps, dips, any sort of overhead/trap/shoulder workout.

Go with larger shapewear. I find that if I wear the size recommended for me, it is too tight and I get weird lumps and spill over. I now always go one size up and it smooths me out without spillover. Are you sure it's the shapewear though? My strapless dress is just tight enough on top to give me back fat spillage. Just putting that out there.

Unfortunately you can't spot reduce. Maybe reconsider a bigger size. BD's is really good about that.

I'm thinking about going back to David's and trying to exchange it, but my wedding's 10/10 and not sure if that's enough time :-(

I didn't know if that's what shapewear was supposed to do to you or if it was just my body. I am wearing a strapless dress and I have boobs so I don't want it to be too loose and be sagging all day but don't want back fat either!

The shapewear is wear. It's really loose in my stomach and really tight on my boobs...

Get quality shapewear, not the crappy stuff from David's. Do you have a Nordstrom's near you? They do fittings and have a big selection, even in larger bras.

My back in the shapewear (the dress fit, the reason it's apart is because I was originally going to have a corset back put in, but later ditched the idea because the dress fit)

I may go to Nordstrom. The dress looks great in the front, just don't want to be rocking that spillover all day!

I would just return the piece from David's Bridal and find a nicer, higher quality piece somewhere else. I would also consider two separate pieces if it's not fitting you uniformly all the way through. You have enough time to do some toning as well if you commit, even if it's just 20 push ups when you wake up and when you go to sleep. If you did that every day between now and the wedding, you would see a difference.

I agree with Jeanne, that shapewear is squeezing you too tight.
