How to handle colors in my ceremony

Amanda, on March 24, 2022 at 7:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Hey guys,

I am struggling a bit with handling color in my ceremony. My official wedding colors are turquoise and khaki, but I was told I might should incorporate other colors in to some stuff in the ceremony. For example, my groom and the wedding party are all wearing turquoise shirts/dresses with khaki shorts (for the guys). I was leaning toward doing a teal/cream or turquoise/khaki themed bouquet for myself and the bridesmaids, but thought this is a good place to incorporate other colors? Do I need to do this, should I do this... I just don't know. Have any of you incorporated other colors outside your chosen colors in to the wedding decorations?

Nope! like almost all of our decor/ flowers are white with just a little burnt orange/ burgundy flowers thrown in (example my bouquet will be 90% white flowers w/ a handful color) as those are our two wedding colors. Don’t feel pressured by others. Do whatever feels right for you! It’s your day after all!!

Thanks, I guess I’m just having troubles because a lot of the bouquets that I’ve been looking at have other colors than my wedding colors. I’m afraid to do an all cream bouquet since my dress is ivory, I’m afraid it will blend.

Where are you looking? And I don’t think so. I think all white flower bouquets are common for brides. Think it’ll have greenery with the flowers so it won’t completely blend in

Since I was planning on using silk, I’ve been looking at Etsy.

You definitely don't need to add more colors if you don't want to. If you're planning to use silk flowers then your color options are virtually unlimited since silk flowers can be made in any color. If you can't find anything you like online, you could also go to your local craft store and DIY your bouquet with flowers/ colors you like.

You should absolutely do what feels right for you. My personal opinion is that with turquoise and khaki, that's already plenty of color (turquoise being such a pop of color), and I would consider making your bouquets compliment your existing color scheme rather than compete, if that makes sense. Creamy white flowers are timeless and will literally compliment any other colors you have, and like the comment above I don't think that a white bridal bouquet would blend in against your wedding dress, especially with a little bit of greenery to offer that contrast. It will look super chic and beautiful!

Thank you for that, I’ve been asking my family and my bridesmaids about this and all I get is do what feels best to you. I am happy to have someone tell me that it won’t blend and that white flowers are timeless! We’re getting married on the beach so I feel like this makes me feel a lot better. LOL

Gotcha! I was gonna say there’s someone I’m getting my bouquet from on Etsy where you can pick what color flowers for your bouquet but they’re wood flowers so they’re a bit pricier

Thanks! We both love the beach, and figured this was the easiest way to get our families to agree to a smaller wedding since it's 7ish hours drive for all involved. LOL

Thanks for thinking of me, wood flowers sound cool, but I really think I want a cascading bouquet.

Can you do me a favor, can you describe it to me because I’m blind and it doesn’t make sense to me how a wooden bouquet can be cascading. LOL

You don't need to add more colors if you don't want to. I like your color scheme. Never thought of turquoise and khaki color to go together but I like it.

We are using 2 main colors and a 3rd as accent only. Navy and burgundy with silver accents for tableware, candle holders,….

That sounds pretty! I was told I should add some different colors to my bouquet but I’m not sold on it.

You could always select flowers with different hues of the blue or cream. If you're afraid of the cream color of flowers blending with the dress you can always add filler (fern, eucalyptus, baby's breath, or other greenery) around it to make it pop out more. Adding filler to bouquets can help reduce cost compared to solely flowers. Are you using silk, fabric or real flowers?

Nice photography with good angles won't make it blend into the dress though.. what time of day is the ceremony/pictures? If you're on a beach you should have some very nice light to help naturally contrast colors.

I am using silk flowers. Do you know of any specific flowers that come naturally in blue or green? I’m leaning more towards doing the ivory/cream bouquet with the greenery. The ceremony is going to be at 5:30 in the evening, but it also will be before sunset since it’s going to be in September and sunset probably won’t happen till 730 or eight.
