How to handle my tablecloths??

Future Mrs. Firkins, on July 31, 2017 at 3:21 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Hey all! I bought some tablecloths (plain ivory cotton/poly blend) and table runners (satin) a while back for the reception. (It was much cheaper to buy than rent!) After I purchased them, I knew I would have to get the wrinkles out, so I've waited until now to do so because I was afraid they would just wrinkle up again storing them. I was told by a few others that instead of taking care of this myself, it would be easier to have them dry cleaned; that it would probably be about $5 each, so that was no big deal. With 2 weeks left, I just called around to see about pricing and realized that advice was very wrong! In my town, they're actually $15 each to dry clean, $15 each to press. I don't want to spend that much on this - that's quadruple what I paid to buy them! I'm so mad at myself for waiting until the last minute to check - not smart! I'm thinking I will just have to do this at home. Any suggestions on the easiest way? Or other options? Thank you!

Try washing them and drying them but before they are completely dry, spread them out on a large surface and smooth them out. You can even stack them. As they dry, start folding them neatly. It will take a few hours but you don't have to watch them dry, just make sure they are getting enough air to them if you are stacking.

Buy a steamer. I registered for one and it's like 50 bucks. If I don't get it at the shower, I'm going to buy it. It'll come in handy for my BM and my dress as well, we are all traveling so I'm sure the bottoms of our dresses will be wrinkled.

There are ways to save money and there are ways to save money. This isn't one of them. By the time you clean and have tablecloths professionally ironed you lost your savings. I assume you had to place them on the table also? I was very picky about mine. We hired a linen company. The points even went in a certain direction. They picked them up and delivered. Each was re ironed before the tables were set. Worth every penny we paid.

Buy an inexpensive long dowel (like a broom handle) at Home Depot. Thread it through pool noodles. Make it as wide as you have a place to store them. You can hang them between two pieces of furniture, on two large hooks or brackets on the wall etc.

Iron your table cloths and fold them only as much as you need to hang them over the pool noodle to minimize the creases. If you want to avoid creases altogether, line your folds with white tissue paper.

You may need to have them touched up with a hand steamer after they are on the tables, but the creases will be minimal.

Toss them in a dryer with a damp cloth, then while they're still hot from the dryer, lay them out to cool. store them in a way you don't have to fold them

I did my research on this before buying because I wondered how it was possible for buying to be cheaper than renting. It's all in the labor. That's why I chose crinkle taffeta. I will still need to tumble dry on low and lay flat to get the gold creases out.

Also if you Google "wedding tablecloths ironing" you will find the best ideas on fixing them yourself in addition to the most crazed, tired bride stories. Some people literally stayed up all night before their wedding ironing.

Absolutely don't fold them after ironing them. That will defeat the whole purpose. If you can't store them flat, then carefully roll them in stacks.
