How to have a Mini-ceremony

Anyone have a mini ceremony? Where did you have it? Did you do anything afterwards instead of a reception? How did you make this day special?

I'm considering having one in my backyard. If so, we would order chick fil a or Chipotle catering.

We had one in my parents' back yard. We made it special by including a version of almost everything we would've had if it had been a normal wedding. So I wore my dress, he wore a tux, we had tons of flowers, dinner, dessert, music, speeches. If you click on my profile, I've only written two discussions and one has pictures from our miniwedding. I'd be happy to offer suggestions/answer questions if you want to know anything specific.

We have a mini-mony planned for 9/6. The ceremony will take place at a local park that we love, then we'll go to dinner afterwards, and end the night with ice cream (our fave!). We've invited 23 people + photographer. My sister has ordered custom cookies, my future MIL is going to buy potted plants for centerpieces that people can take home, and we're renting out either the back patio or large tent at the restaurant so it'll be a mostly private event. The whole thing will be more casual overall but still have some elements that we want, like the pro photos. We aren't going to be wearing our actual wedding outfits. Instead he's wearing his favorite dress shirt, and I'm going to wear a beautiful lace knee-length dress (with pockets!) and a romantic updo. I didn't cancel our alternative flower order, so i'll be able to use my bouquet twice and we can use the signage at dinner. TBH I'm so excited to get ice cream afterwards because our wedding venue told us we can't have ice cream as a dessert next year unless we hire an ice cream cart vendor.

Hi Alexis! You can have a minimony at your original wedding venue, an elopement venue, or in someone's house or backyard!

Here are a few other discussions about smaller celebrations going on right now that you should definitely check out and jump into: What is everyone doing after their minimonies?, Need help with Minimony timeline and details!, Downsizing a postponed Covid Wedding, and Covid-19 postpone ideas.

We had a small ceremony at our church and then had a private room in a restaurant for our reception. This was last year but I always called it an "in between" wedding because we only had about 25 people. We made the day special by still doing cake cutting and speeches at the restaurant. I had personal flowers for our attendants and special people. We did a stay cation type honey moon at a local hotel. It wasn't very stressful whatsoever especially since we were only dealing with basically two vendors, the photographer and the restaurant.

We are having our minimony at the church where we would have gotten married anyway and then will have dinner, either catered at FILs' house or at a local restaurant. You can definitely still have a mini ceremony and have it be special, it will be more more low key but also pretty intimate if you only have close ones there.
