How to have a Wedding Under 10k?

It seems like this is a difficult question to ask on here because a lot of people doubt the idea of having an affordable wedding. It seems like this is a difficult question to ask on here because a lot of people doubt the idea of having an affordable wedding. I've read multiple posts on here telling the OP that it's impossible and the only thing they can do it cut corners and shorten the guest list to 30 people max. I have only just started planning my wedding so I know things will add up fast. I started with just writing down who I want on the guest list and looking at a few venues to get ideas and pricing. So far I've included around 100 people on my guest list, but that could change in 3 years time. I found 2 venues that are wonderful. One for the ceremony and another for the reception. The ceremony is $100 to rent. So that works great for the budget. The reception might be around $1500-2k depending on which menu option we choose. Other than that we haven't gone any further in detail, but we have researched things we can cut because it will be something no one will miss.

I think 10,000 is achievable. I am having around a 125 person wedding and I'm at around 12,000 now.

My wedding budget is for $10,000. Right now we are running below budget on everything. Depends where you live. I am in a farm town in MI so things are cheaper than a big city. I am also planning mine for 350 guests and under $10,000.

Having a beautiful wedding here in Tampa FL with 10-12k budget for 125 guests. It is totally doable. Just plan accordingly and budget.

This is possible depending on where you live. We're doing 90 guests for $9500. That's assuming everyone comes and orders the more expensive meal. That includes every expense except for the rings.

Going with an all-inclusive venue made a HUGE difference for us. Also focusing on the big picture rather than the details.

My wedding is under 10,000. Ceremony and reception are in the location. Buffet. DJ, photography and photo booth. It can be done. Just keep looking

I tried to do under $10k, but I have so far managed it. We hit $9,500 with everything but the photographer, DJ, cake, and travel expenses. I'll probably hit $15k here shortly!

This community is all about having an affordable wedding; where the wedding takes place just makes a huge difference when it comes to how many guests can be properly hosted. A 100-person reception for $2k is an insanely low cost; if it's a legit venue, you are definitely lucking out big time!

It's not that people here doubt the idea of affordable weddings; they doubt the idea that you can feed and provide drinks for 100 people in a gracious way without glue-gunning yourself into oblivion under 10,000. And finding the cheapest food you can. And making your friends work. And calling in favors.

But it definitely can't be done anywhere in the NY/NJ area for that.

You can certainly do this! you just have to be very creative.

I would make a list of priorities for your budget. On WW the community would say 1- Food, a close 2- alcohol, 3- DJ.

Your venue can be almost anywhere, you may have to go for cost and size and forgo vision.

Dress can be another splurge but you have time to shop around and consider deals.

For sure you can skip unnecessary things like favors, save the dates, live music, plated meals, outrageous/out of season flowers, etc.

I recommend you do not get suckered into frendors but you'll be great! I have faith in you Smiley smile

I'm in Kansas City. It's on the cusp, but certainly doable. We started out with a 10k budget too. We are up to 15k now. Once we started putting the pieces of the puzzle together, we realized we can't have the evening we want and be great hosts on our original budget. Plus, everything is a lot more expensive than we thought when we were first planning. All of those little extra fees add up. And we refuse to put family and friends to work for us. We are skipping al of the paper goods that we can, and are DIYing quite a bit for decor. You have time to wait for sales on everything, so that is helpful!

Very possible! I have a guest list of 170 and I'm not going to go over $12,000! Just budget and really think about what you actually need vs what you want. It's very easy to get caught up in little details but just remind yourself that no one is going to pay attention to small details as much as you are!

It's possible. Ours is 12k , but we want to stay under 10. I think we'll go to twelve, but I'm ok with that. Decide what's important for you and call and search for deals. We found a photo, video, a photo booth deal for 1300. I'm not into flowers so that's saving a lot. I've been researching and contacting several vendors and that's working. You can definitely do it.

    @brooke, I call bullshit.

I don't care where you live. You cannot *properly* host 170 guests for $12k.

There is no way that $12k includes professionally catered food and free alcohol for 170 guests.

Never mind the DJ, attire, ceremony site fee, transportation, decor, invitations and save the dates, cake, photographer, hair and makeup, gifts...

    Not. Happening.

We are having 150 for 5000 not including rings and honeymoon. 10000 is definitely doable!

I don't necessarily think 170 guests for $12k is impossible to properly host guests, depending on where you live. I live in a relatively low cost of living area, and the average food price within a 30 mile radius at reception locations is around $25. For 170 people plus 5% sales tax and 18% gratuity, food would cost $5227.50, and if you just do beer and wine, maybe $1-2k. So overestimating a little $7.25k for food and drink. Some of the venues around here don't have a reception charge of you have a food/beverage minimum. (One place was only $5k on a Saturday). $1.5k for photographer, $500 for dj. If everything else is cheap, it can probably work out.

We're doing ours for right around 10k. Thankfully we found a venue that includes quite a bit. Brunch buffet, full bar, rose center pieces and the cake for $70/person.

Everything else we're going pretty minimal on, simple favors ( we got mini altoids from Amazon and printed our own labels & I'm getting a friend of mine who keeps bees to do small honey jars). I'm using wildflowers from a friends garden for bouquets. I found a dress at a sample store that fit me prefect, and bought very simple spring dresses for my bridesmaids from Macy's. We also found some good prices on suits for the men. Very small bridal party, simple reception. We did go mid range in prices for the dj (700). But many other things we're dyi-ing. I have a friend that does photography so we got a good rate from her ( I know many people say friendors are a big NO) but I'm making an exception because I know she can act professional and I love her work. Basically it just boils down to creativity, shopping around, and sacrificing having all the fancy trimmings in exchange for good food, good music, and a small guest list of the people we're closest to.

It is definitely possible to have a wedding under $10,000! I recently got married in June and our wedding was only $8,000 for 120 people. I recently wrote a blog post on it if anyone is interested: https://angelnguyendavid.com/how-to-have-a-wedding-under-10000/
