How to incorporate teenage cousins in wedding

Ashley, on September 9, 2019 at 8:03 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

I'm having a hard time finalizing my guest list because I have 3 cousins (15, 17 & 17) who I'm pretty close to, but aren't in my bridal party. We decided we're doing 18 & older for attendees since my fiance and I both have a lot of younger cousins and it would become crazy if we invited all of them. If there's a way I can figure out how to incorporate my three female cousins in a special way, that would allow us to invite them kind of as a "loophole" to have three kids under 18 attending. Does anyone have any ideas? I can't have them as junior bridesmaids because we already have 7 BM & GM and it would be way too much. Any suggestions?!

You could have one or two of them hand out programs and maybe one or two of them do a reading!

I think you could definitely have them be something like ushers. I'm also really all for non-traditional flower girls/ring bearers, so if they'd be up for something like that, I think it could be really cute.

I’m getting through my “no children” loophole by having my teenage cousins be ushers.

I think you could have them hand out programs or help with the guestbook. My cousin did this in her wedding with her younger cousins that she was close to. It worked out well!

As suggested above, you can definitely incorporate the teens as greeters and ushers. If you wanted them inclusively in the wedding, you can even ask one to be a banner holder (like "here comes the bride" signage) before you walk down the aisle or a reader. My friend had her teenage nephew as a reader and one of the others as a sign holder. Worked out well.
