How to indicate meal choices?

SpringBride23, on January 6, 2019 at 10:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
I was planning on doing tile placecards, but started thinking about how I could possibly indicate a meal choice if I did use the tiles. Any advice?

You could do them in different colors to coordinate with your wedding colors. So if your colors were burgundy and gold you could use burgundy for beef and gold for chicken, for example. Or you could a have an icon on the bottom of each tile to indicate the meal choice. I did this on my place cards where I used trees. 3 trees were for beef, 2 trees were for salmon, and 1 tree was for chicken.

We indicated meal choice with stickers from Etsy. I would ask your venue/caterer what they prefer.

However you do it. You could put it on the back so it doesn't interupt your design. I went to a wedding where they use the pictures of chickens or a cow or fish and stuck it on the back of name card

I love the alternating color idea, but you could also use little stickers that could be removed later if people are taking tiles home as keepsakes.

Color coordination? Or can you put a small symbol below the last name?

Maybe get different color stickers (something shimmery so it looks nice??) and just stick them on the bottom of the tiles? People can always remove those later if they take the tiles home to keep.

Honest question, is the indication of which meal chosen on the escort card for the guest to know or the servers? I had always planned on a buffet but our venue is offering a great package deal and that would include a plated meal instead. Is this something I need to do on my cards too? Sorry to hijack!

Either way I think this should be communicated to the servers/caterers. I have been to many weddings where there was a rhinestone that indicated your order or other cute ways. In the end we were always asked what we ordered and it became a detail that was overlooked.

I agree with PPs that you could use a different color. It is for the servers to know who orders which entree meal for a plated service, that way they don’t have to ask and risk your guests telling them a different meal tha. What they ordered. We’ll be doing something similar!

We're doing these too! Ideas we floated were:

    - different colors

    - WRITE it on the front or back (fish, beef, vegetarian)

    - cute design on the front or back

Two "problems" we found - First in order for the different colors to work you have to have RSVPs for everyone. Given that these are labor intensive and online vendors will need time, it didn't seem realistic to do this. Second the backing of most marble tiles is a pain in the ... to remove. We found some on amazon that the backing was a glue and dissolved in water so this wasn't a problem.

We did tiles too! Love this!! But, I'll be no help unfortunately. We got married in a restaurant and while guests chose their meals when they RSVPed, the servers still asked them what their meal choice was when they came to the table. Here's one of our tiles!
