How to join candles together?

Marie S. (aka Princess Leia), on March 20, 2012 at 11:21 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

So I've conjugated the F word to new heights this morning... My poor dogs virgin ears.

I have these monsterous vases that I need very tall candles for. 24" & 18" so being the eternal cheapskate I decided to buy 9" candles that I could glue together to get the heights I need. Wrong. Hot glue isn't working. Melting the candles together isn't working either. So any ideas on how to get these buggers to stick together?

Help!

Epoxy glue could work. Perhaps paired with 18g floral wire. If you heat the wire (hair dryer, maybe?), it should slide in alright and then before the two candles are all the way together, slip a little epoxy between them. I'd finish with a little piece of ribbon to hide where they were joined.

*** this is just me brainstorming ***

I'm still going to go with some hot wax to stick them together. Poke some holes in them where they will touch so that the hot wax will fill the holes and help mold them together?

Maybe get some paper clips? Heat them up. Shove them into the bottom candle. Have a spare candle that is your "melting" candle. Have the hot wax ready. Heat up the rest of the paperclip start to shove it into the top one and use some hot wax as the glue.

Maybe have a ribbon to cover the seams? Are they snug enough inside the vase that if you just layer them it will work, or do they slide around too much if they are not secured together?

~ wow Aidan ~ don't think we could have gotten much closer to our suggestions LOL

Lol, that is amusing Hayley! Great minds think alike. I've tried using hot candle wax for things like that before, and it can get really brittle after it cools. If epoxy isn't something you desire to work with (believe me, I understand!), maybe try gel super glue. That stuff is pretty awesome. I'd still use wire (or paperclips, good suggestion) for extra stability.

Girls - you're both brilliant! I had some 14 gauge Galvanized wire - heated it up and it worked pretty good. Had a little slippage still so believe it or not I stapled them together. They look like Frankenstein stitches but the seam will covered by bling mesh.

    Success! Yeah! Thanks!
