How to keep wedding un-"stuffy"?

Meghan, on June 13, 2019 at 10:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi all!

My fiance and I just booked our venue - a beautiful small mansion. We mainly chose it for the grounds and the fact that it's smack-dab in the middle of the town, so our guests can walk from their hotels and we don't have to worry about anyone driving after the party. The reception will be in the "ballroom", and while it's beautiful, it's also very traditional whereas my fiance and I are very not.

We want to make sure that the wedding is fun, and not TOO formal while enjoying the beautiful space. I'm worried that we'll try to conform our wedding to fit the venue, and not us. I was thinking of having a more fun menu and using decor make it our own. Has anyone else felt this?

I think if you're using your own decor then it should be ok. It's also the vibe you're setting so if you're making it fun and light then it's ok that the venue is more fancy looking

Can you post a pic? You can absolutely make it your own. And if it’s a beautiful venue (which it is) you can have totally fun centerpieces, place cards, cake topper and other decor elements that are very much “you” without it seeming tacky. You guys love Game of Thrones, Legos, Peter Pan, video games or fantasy books? Personalize your wedding with a fun theme. ❤️

I think you'll set the tone yourselves. If you are mostly enthusiastically greeting people and chatting with them, it will be a lot less stuffy than if you have a whole program of spotlight dances, bouquet and garter toss, and other "official" events.

    Hi Meghan!

I agree with the other posters in saying you and your FS will set the tone. You're already conscious that the venue isn't your typical style, and thinking of ways to make it "un-stuffy", so I think you will be super ok Smiley smile

You can make the venue your own with your decor, personalities, etc. Having a fun menu is also a great idea!

What theme/style is more you and your FS?
