How to make a ballroom less “ballroomy”

dancedancedance, on February 15, 2018 at 8:15 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 14
My FI and I have chosen a hotel for both our ceremony and reception. The main ballroom has an exceptional view and the convenience of the location will be great since we have many out of town guests. The room is big and open with huge windows covering 3 of the walls (almost ceiling to floor). I’ve seen pictures with their round tables, white linens, and white chair covers, and I’m just not a fan of the look. Wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to make the room look a little more unique? I thought of asking if they have retangular table options or seeing if I can rent alternate chairs. If anyone has any ideas or picture inspiration that would be great!!

Are you having a “cookie table” or anything like that? I’m doing different signs at the bar, cake table, candy bar...what are you’re centerpieces like? I think little things like that make the decor!

Keep the round tables. Ask if they have Chiavari chairs. They're fancier and won't need seat covers. Also, get your own tablecloths and instead of white, go for a color. What are your wedding colors? We had gold satin on the tables.

Ballrooms can be gorgeous. You just have to use your imagination.

I like the look of the Chiavari chairs! Not decided on my colours yet but all the schemes I’ve looked at have included pops of gold!

Also look into uplighting, it can drastically change the look of the ballroom.

I agree with both Elizabeth and the Grooms. I wasn’t a huge fan of chair covers. Luckily my venue had chiavari chairs. I like they make a huge difference in the look. We also did charcoal grey on the tables rather than the traditional white.

The first thing I would do is see what their chairs look like without the chair covers. They may be perfectly satisfactory banquet chairs. The white chair covers give you a sea of white that overcomes your other decor.

Chiavari chairs may look elegant but I'd take a banquet chair over a chiavari any day for comfort.

Their chairs are grey and aren’t bad on their own. They also don’t have chair covers on site anymore because they switched chairs and the chairs now have a straight top instead of rounded. So I would have to rent chair covers anyway. Which is why I feel it may be okay to spend a little more and just rent Chiavari chairs.

Thanks for for the responses everyone! I’ll look into some of these options.

Also haven’t decided on centrepieces or other details yet! Really the only thing decided so far is the venue so I’m open to any and all suggestions! Thinking simple, romantic, floral.

Just curious as to why you would choose a ballroom when you don’t want it to look like a ballroom?

That, among many other reasons, is why we chose this venue. It’s really the “ballroomy” chair covers, linens, and other decor I’m looking for advice around.. which I said in my post. The room is great, just not a fan of the standard items that come with the rental. I have some wiggle room in the budget to change some things if I want.
