How to Pick a Wedding Planner?

Ruth, on March 12, 2022 at 6:34 PM Posted in Planning 16 2
Hello! New bride here, just engaged 3 months ago and just now starting the planning stage. We have decided we want a wedding planner, but have no idea where to start. How do you pick a wedding planner? How do you know if they are any good?

We did a lot of research and just started reaching out to people! Start googling for planners in the general area(s) of your wedding. I don’t know if you have a venue but I discovered they won’t book with you unless you’ve already signed with a venue. I would never book ANY vendor without a phone call or video chat. We had plenty of calls with people we thought we liked based off their website and direct emailing with them until actually talking and realized we didn’t like them at all. We videoed with the woman we chose to be our day of coordinator and we just vibed with her really well. We liked the questions she asked us and conversation we had. I guess you don’t really know 100% if someone will be good. You just read reviews, talk to them and do your research

Treat this somewhat like you’re hiring someone for a job (because you are)! Do some research on Wedding Wire for the top planners in your area. The reviews will give you a good sense of their general vibe. Also get recommendations from people you know who have gotten married or been to weddings in your area. If you have some venues in mind, you could also ask them if there are planners they work with a lot. Once you have 3-5 options you like, reach out for pricing and to schedule consultations with them to talk through what your priorities for the day are and if they’d be a good fit.

Good planners will ask you lots of questions about your vision, budget and any cultural/religious elements you want incorporated into your day.

I found my planner because she was a preferred planner with the venue we had decided would be best for our wedding.
