How to politely ask guests not to take too many desserts?

So every person will be getting their own slice of cake, but we also ordered a dessert table as we really enjoyed a showcase they gave us but unfortunately we could only afford 288 desserts in total (which cost A LOT), meaning each guest can only get 3 desserts out of the 8 different kinds of desserts being presented. Perhaps we should have only ordered a lot of the same thing but our dessert table vendor recommended we do different things so everyone will have stuff they like. How can we politely ask guests to not take too many desserts from the dessert table without being rude? Thank you for any suggestions/help Smiley smile

I honestly cant imagine someone taking more than FOUR desserts. I think you should be more worried about what your going to do with all the leftovers.

You can't. Just let adults adult! Also, lots of people don't eat desserts - including me - so there will be enough extra for people who want to take a little more.

It will probably be OK. PEOPLE don't want to look greedy either

    1. Hire a security guard that specializes in dessert consumption.

    2. Put a sign that says, "Hey fatties, limit yourself."

    3. Respect that people are adults and you are likely going to have leftovers because not everyone enjoys sweets.

    All respectable options.

Just curious...are these bite sized desserts? Or more like cupcake/individual dessert sized? I don't think you'll have many people taking more than 3 even if they're single bite sized. But definitely not more than 3 if they're 3-ish bites each. And since they're also all getting a slice of wedding cake, I really don't feel like you're going to have a problem here.

If people are drinking they probably won't be eating much dessert

No, there shouldn't be a problem either.

At parties or at a get together, I really don't care for dessert, but if I do want something sweet I normally just grab 2 different pieces, however I always keep in mind that there are other people that haven't gotten desserts so its only obvious you don't fill up your plate.

Another vote for 'don't worry-- it'll even out, and when it's gone it's gone-- really not a big deal. It sure beats throwing hundreds of dollars worth of food into the garbage!

I must be in minority and around some greedy people. Actually, the last wedding I went too, the cleaned out the dessert table and people were hoarding chocolate truffles!

I understand your question because all adults don't know how to be adults. But I wouldn't make a sign. Just hope for the best and don't be upset if the worst happens.

Yikes I hope the sign suggestion was a joke. Please don't do that. Most adults know how to act at a wedding.

You'll probably be telling people to take extras by the end of the night.

When you do any display like this, you just risk it. At one wedding they had a sign that said don't touch the candy bar until 8pm. I'm damn near 30, I think I can control myself, but I almost took some just because they put that sign.

Our baker specifically told us to limit our flavors when we were considering cupcakes for our wedding. When there are too many choices people want to take one of each.
