How to portray wedding vision ideas

Laura, on January 12, 2021 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
Looking for ideas to get my vision across to vendors.

I was thinking of printing out pics and making a collage— 1 page for ceremony ideas, 1 page for reception, 1 page for flower ideas, ect....
How did you get across your ideas and vision to your vendors?

Most people put together a Pinterest board that can be quickly accessed via phone.

Paint chips from the hardware store let you see the colors in natural vs fluorescent lighting.

Many do a Pinterest board. I did most of the work without vendors so that's how I was able to have it my way (my vision).

In addition to the previous posts, I made a little spiral bound book with photos, paint chips, sample of bridesmaids dresses, included my email, phone number, etc. I gave copies to applicable vendors and copies to my mom, his mom and his stepmom. I know it sounds overkill, but it saved me from repeating myself to the core group (ex: what is your email again? Are the dresses peach or blush?). I’m a project manager so I guess it’s just how I think 😉 ❤️

May I ask which vendors are you wanting to express your vision too? I can understand putting together an idea board for a planner and florist however I would hesitate doing that for a dj and photographer. A photographer and dj are usually hired for their style; their portfolios/videos of weddings would be the equivalent to your idea boards.

Like others have said, Pinterest is definitely the way to go. You can get a board for your wedding then sections under that board for different things like flowers, invitations, dresses, etc. No need to cut and print anything. Vendors will ask for your Pinterest or for you to show them what you are thinking and you can easily send them the link or pull it up on your phone.

I put together a pinterest board. Most of the florists that I met with actually specified that they wanted me to share my pinterest boards with them prior to my consultations. I ended up going with the florist who put together a proposal package that most closely resembled my inspiration photos.

I would create a new board with sections broken out for each thing then move the ideas you would like to go with into the corresponding section. I had created a board on Pinterest of ideas when we started trying to conceive. Once I found out I was pregnant, I broke it into sections so like one section was if we had a boy, one was quilt patterns I like since my mother-in-law wants to make us a quilt, maternity photos, etc. It made it so easy just using the move function that Pinterest has.

Yup Pinterest! I had 5 photos of what I wanted and 5 what I did not want for my HMUA. I gave the photographer a list.

We only had to do this for our florist, and I did a combination of a Pinterest board with a few individual highlights pulled out as attachments as we were emailing back and forth. Definitely the way to go! Have fun! Smiley heart

This is the way to go. So much easier than purging a ton of pictures.

This would be something to show your florist, baker, and day of coordinator who is typically in charge of decorating. Unless there is a special photo you want to recreate or a certain style/pose you hate, I would trust the photographer to do their job since you hired them and not someone else for their specific style.

I cannot recommend Pinterest enough for vision boards. I like to split mine up into sections as well... for example: my attire, my fiancé’s attire, cake ideas, etc. You can add your vendors via an email. You can always add stuff from the internet or add pictures from your own phone. I would also suggest you make it a secret board if you are posting photos you took yourself.

I’ll second the suggestion for PowerPoint! Pinterest is great for inspiration, but not if you want to focus in on a specific item in a picture since many pins are a full layout spread or collage themselves. Plus it’s really easy to screenshot and crop images.

We mostly picked vendors who already aligned with what we liked, or I just pulled pics from google.

Vendors should be able to talk to you and get what you want from your discussions.

I made a PDF vision board for all aspects of my wedding ideas and sent them to our vendors via email. Unfortunately, because we've had to postpone our wedding from last August, to this August, and feel like we won't be able to do our wedding this August either, we will probably elope.

    Pinterest works too!

Make a rough sketch of your ideas and draw them into papers, then show them to vendors. I hope he will understand that.
