How to return a gift with no receipt?

Rachel, on October 8, 2018 at 10:41 AM Posted in Registry 0 8

Hello! We received two of the same kitchenaid mixers..the first one we've been using for about a month now, and the second one we received with no receipt (and no idea where it was purchased from). (And the second was not purchased through our registry, so it wasn't tracked).

Anyone out there have the same issue? My FIL was the one to deliver the second mixer (from his sisters), and he even said "I think you already have one of these, so now you have two" implying we will not be able to ask for a receipt.

I'm not trying to be ungrateful for the extremely nice gift, but also I don't want it to go to waste in a cupboard waiting for our other one to break before I can use it!

Can you just sell it on the Facebook Marketplace or Craig's List?

Are they the exact same mixer? do you have the receipt for the other one? You might be able to return it at that store.

I think you could at least even try at the store you are registered at. You can go in and say that someone gave you a duplicate gift, but did not give you a gift receipt and that you would like to exchange it for store credit. The worst that can happen is they will tell you no.

Scan the barcode at a few different store apps (BBB, target, Macy’s) and see if it is sold at any of them. You may be able to return for store credit

You can return it to bed bath and beyond and target without a receipt. You just need your ID and they will both give you store credit. I recomend checking the current prices as they will give you back the current running price of the item so if it’s on sale you get the sale amount back. Also bed bath and beyond will give you back 20% off the runnning price because of their coupon they always have going.

If it is the same exact model you can always try to take it back to where your registry is. Also, look at other stores that sell that exact model and most will take it back and give you a store credit.

Hi Rachel! I would first try to see if you can return it to either a Target or Bed, Bath and Beyond and just receive store credit for it! If they can't take it, I would just try to sell it on a resale website or see if anyone you know needs a mixer!

I would be cautious on Facebook just in case the gifter sees that it is being sold. It seems OP doesn't want to cause drama.
