How to Save Money on Wedding Flowers

I am nearing the end of my budget for the wedding and I still need flowers. I put this off because flowers are not my top priority. How do I save money in this area? Any recommended vendors in the Chicago area? Or ways to make up for the lack of flowers in the wedding?

You can get very far with baby's breath. It's fairly cheap, esp wholesale. It also looks bridal.

You can try a school that is teaching students how to become florists. There is a school Metro Tech in Az that does that, they have good prices and they do pretty descent work.

I did Sola Wood Flowers. Fresh is too expensive and horribly limiting in my opinion.

We opted for more greenery versus blooms and it cut the cost down significantly.

I went to a local flower shop for my flowers. I set up an initial consultation and told them my budget up-front. They were so nice, and told me what they would be able to do in my budget. Try looking for a place that doesn't charge you for vases. The place I am getting my flowers allows me to borrow and return the vases after the wedding. Also, if you want specific flowers in the bouquets, you could ask them if there are cheaper flowers that look similar that could go in the centerpieces. Hope that helps!

I've seen a video recently where they decorated almost completely with greenery from vines they had in their back yard and it was beautiful! I love the greenery idea and it is already cheap to purchase but depending on the season with a little yard work in you or a friends yard you could do it for free.

    I agree with this completely!

We didn't want to go over $1k for our flowers, and was very honest with our florist about that. She was more than accommodating, made sure that the major floral pieces were included in our contract, and even helped us eliminate florals that weren't necessary. (on groom wearing boutonniere, moms and gmoms carrying single flower etc)

We DIYd our bridesmaid bouquets with grocery store flowers. Spent $30 total for 4 bouquets and they were gorgeous!

I've heard great things about both Sam's club and Fiftyflowers.com. I was actually going to go through them until one of our local florists quoted me and her quote for the bouquets cost about the same as I would had spent on fifty flowers. My centerpieces and the head table is where the cost went up and will run me about $200 more going through her but honestly, not having to stress over it the 2 days before the wedding and the day of will be worth the extra money to me..

I'm going through the local flower marketing for mine. A lot of florists go through the flower market also, and they charge you for the labor of going there and picking flowers out, so I'm just eliminating the middle man and doing it myself. The flower marketing near me as a $10-15 fee for the workers to make the bouquets for you, or I can do it myself - which is a lot cheaper than a florist fee! They also have a wedding coordinator that can drop off any flowers at my church or venue.
