How to stock the open bar?

My FH and I need some help deciding what we need to buy for the full open bar. We went to the store and they had all sorts of suggestions but we want to know what everyone else has bought and actually used, especially liquors. My FH and I need some help deciding what we need to buy for the full open bar. We went to the store and they had all sorts of suggestions but we want to know what everyone else has bought and actually used, especially liquors. I'm not much of a drinker and my FH sticks mostly to beer. We don't want to buy stuff that won't get used. We also don't want to go top shelf, so specific names would be very helpful.

Here's what we have so far:

4 beers/cider (Heineken, Sam Adams Octoberfest, Killian's Irish Red, Angry Orchard)

4 wines (Chardonnay, Riesling, Malbec, red blend)

Mixers (sour mix, margarita mix, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, sodas) (ask fruits limes, oranges, cherries)

I'm just hiring a bartender service and providing beer, wine and champagne to toast. Part of my contract includes the bartender, bar back and all the booze for 4 hours plus their setup/cleanup time. And, if there's anything left, I'll get to keep it. Most of our friends are beer/wine drinkers anyway and I told my FH that I would have a bottle of his favorite (Crown Black) hidden away just for him.

OP, I would suggest adding orange juice as a mixer.

We didn't stock our own bar, but I definitely suggest at least checking Costco to see if any of the items you're looking for are available.

FWIW, I think your beer and wine choices look good. I live that you've got a cider in there and Reisling and Malbec are two of my absolute favorites.

I was a bartender for years and worked a number of weddings. I must suggest that you add a light beer, like Miller Lite. It's always better to have at least one light. Liquor, stick to basics that are mid-tier/shelf. Vodka, you want 2 choices, like Absolut and Stoli. Whiskey, Jack Daniels and/or Jim Beam. A decent scotch for the older gents, perhaps Dewars. A decent rum, like Bacardi is always a nice choice to have. Don't forget club and seltzer ! STOCK UP ! Smiley winking

You have to know your crowd but in my experience, vodka and whiskey move fast, so those are what should be stocked most of. Also, a nice coconut rum, like Malibu will go over well with girly drinks like Baybreezes.

I would say add a light beer.

Didn't read every single comment so I apologize if I'm repeating, but I would go the route of signature drinks. For my friend's wedding they sent out a drink card, and asked us to select which we would prefer. They ultimately went with beer, wine, and then for liquor a vodka based drink, dark rum based drink, and a coconut rum.

Made drink choices very easy, because there were only 6 options to choose from
