how to tie bouquet

Jennifer, on October 2, 2013 at 4:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

For anyone who has made their bouquets with real flowers...what is the easiest way to hold the flowers together after you arrange them? Floral wire, floral tape, rubberbands? Just not sure how to secure them tightly before wrappin the burlap or ribbon....attached a pic of what i'm going for!

Definitely wire. You don't even need a lot. Depending on how long your stems will be just wrap the wire tightly around in 2 or 3 places and you're good to go. Smiley smile

Floral tape is probably best if you're just trying to keep it together before wrapping a ribbon/burlap. It's not as bulky as a rubber band and you'll get a smoother finished look.

For a bestie's wedding we rubber-banded them (tight budget) before wrapping it in ribbon. no one even noticed

Floral tape. Every time. It's what professionals use for a reason. Wire, rubber bands, or anything else can damage delicate stems, and they can leave you with a bumpy, non-smooth surface. If you tie your ribbon on a bumpy handle, you'll end up with a DIY looking result. Start wrapping firmly as close to the bottom of the blooms as you can, and continue on down. Floral tape sticks to itself and nothing else. It's a miracle product. Finish off your bouquet by laying it down and using a sharp knife to slice through the bottom of the stems for a clean, even, professional look.

Actually florist use a string imbedded with wax similar to twine but with a wax on it then after its together its finished with floral tape then with your chosen ribbon. if you try to use anything else the flowers will not fall right and be way to bunched up together its about balance. Its not that you can't use straight floral tape its just far to hard to get the flowers to fall correctly.
