How was your ring chosen?

Kelly, on March 6, 2023 at 5:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

Did you get to pick? Did your partner surprise you?

My partner and I had some ring design sessions where we designed rings we liked online on jeweler websites. He used that information when he bought a ring!

Aww I love that your ring was a joint effort by the two of you! 💕 My Fiancé got me a “place holder” ring that he proposed with. Then he took me to his family jeweler and I got to create my own ring.

I was at a jewelry store with my mom one day and saw this beautiful ring. I tried it on and fell in love with it. This was about a year or so before my husband and I got engaged. I did tell them I saw a ring I liked and showed it to him and that's the ring he ended up buying. It was part of Disney collection so it was easy for him to find.

I wanted something really specific so my fiancé let me design my ring. I picked my diamond and worked with our jeweler on the CADs but didn't get to see the finished setting until he officially proposed.

H, then BF knew what I liked in terms of cut, metal, and setting from conversations we had about all the people we knew at the time who were getting engaged. He picked it out himself and it was a surprise in that sense.

My Mom had a good friend whose brother worked as a diamond cutter in the diamond exchange in Manhattan. We went into the city to see him and he had 3 white diamonds chosen, all oval-shaped which is what I wanted and about 1 carat, for us to choose from. I then chose a lovely but simple yellow gold setting.

My fiance had a diamond that belonged to his grandmother. He later surprised me during a visit; we are in a ldr. The setting was not something I'd go for, so I upgraded a bit about two months later. How was your ring chosen? 1

I found a bridal set that is everything I could want, stone, metal, settings, and symbols, and he made sure to get it. I think we did more research on his, it was actually quite cute, the amount of research we ended up doing for his, we ended up getting a dinosaur bone inlaid band, which is right up his ally.

My husband proposed with an engagement ring that he picked out, and then we later went and picked out another ring together.

I didn't have specific tastes and was happy with whichever style my husband chose for himself. I decided to get the matching lady version. My engagement ring was a family heirloom. We wear our rings on special evenings as our work precludes hand jewelry.

My ring isn’t here yet but I picked the design and he picked the cut. It’s also a moissanite instead of a diamond which I LOVE!

My fiancé designed a few rings, since he knows me so well, I fell in love with his design. He just knew I liked a unique band and a pear shape and went with the idea. How was your ring chosen? 2

I actually picked out my own ring lol. He wanted to make sure he got something that I liked and I LOVE heart shaped rings. So one day we were looking at a department store that was shutting down so everything was extra on sale and they had a heart shaped ring! We bought it then but he didn't actually propose for a few more years.

Mine was a surprise. He picked it all by himself and he honestly did a better job than I would have. The stone is a large lab alexandrite which is my birthstone. It changes color based on lighting so it can be purple, teal, blue, or green. It's funny when people see it they often assume its amethyst or aquamarine. The band is gold which I love. There are two diamonds around the stone. He chose the twisted band because I like snakes but it reminds me of plant vines because he loves plants its just perfect and I still love staring at it. Mine was almost a complete surprise other than I had told him what stone I liked (I didn’t want diamond), but that had been quite a while before he proposed. Apparently he had it narrowed down to two rings and asked his friends’ wives to vote, and then he randomly came across a third option and got that one instead lol. I really wanted my whole engagement to be a surprise, including the ring, but I was still impressed that he remembered and picked something I would like since we hadn’t talked about it in ages.

Your rings are beautiful. I love how you gifted each other engagement rings.
