How were you proposed to/ How did you propose? :)

HoneyBee, on August 10, 2017 at 12:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 51

I feel like the the midst of preparing for a wedding somethings do not go as planned, or in general we can all feel a little stressed or under pressure. But it is always good to take a step back, breathe, and remember how it all started.

It is great to hear people gush about their FH/FW or even DH/DW, and how their journey to being/becoming a married couple started.

So how were you proposed to or how did you propose? Smiley smile

My FH proposed on my birthday last year (which was exactly a year ago in 2 days). He wrote 'Will you marry me?' on a cake which I thought was going to be my birthday cake.

Honestly, ask me anything on cake and I'm probably going to say yes. He knows me well.

Ah! I can remember it like it was yesterday. After dinner in Boston, we went for a walk since it was oddly warm that evening in November. He dropped down on bended knee, said the sweetest speech, and asked at Christopher Columbus Park. My family was hiding and when we kissed and hugged they immediately came out and congratulated us. Everything was perfect! I added a picture from google of the park below since I am not on my personal computer right now I don't have pictures from the night available. It was magical. Especially with the lights.

Mine was nothing too special but i still loved how he did it, it was cute and made me smile so much lol.

We went to put a lock with our first initial of our names on a love gate, walked around down town, went to eat at my favorite place.

    Then as we are

waiting for our food he gets up t o "use the restroom "

comes back to the table and gets on one knee. LOL Then we went to see a movie I've been wanting to see.

Mine proposed to me on a lifeguard stand at the ocean Memorial Day weekend. My best friend recorded it, and you can hear me talking about my fat ass while trying to climb up the chair. It's pretty comical.

He got so nervous that he forgot his entire plan and everything he planned to say. So, he ended up just pushing me up against his car in a restaurant parking lot and asked me to marry him. He refused to get down on one knee though because he was wearing new pants and didn't want them to get dirty. I laughed, said yes and then asked if we could go inside because I was starving.

DH picked me up from work and took me to our favorite park. We walked around awhile, gazed at the stars, and he was super nervous the entire time. On the way out of the park he stopped me and said he brought me there because he wanted to "talk to me about something" in a place with lots of positive memories. Then he said that he no longer wanted to be my boyfriend, and paused long enough for me to panic. Then he said he would rather be my husband, pulled out the ring and asked.

FH proposed on Christmas while we were switching cars. I was in the house unpacking the gifts from his parents house and getting ready to go an hour and a half out to his aunts house. he brought the last bag in and said he'd be right back because he forgot something. He came back in the house handed the box and said "we're getting married"

He says he hates the way he did it but I loved it and thought it was hysterical because it was totally him. He says he got so nervous and anxious that the way he had planned to propose went right out the window. We still laugh about it and makes for a great story.

I woke up for work (4:30 a.m.) and FH said something to me as I was walking out of the room. He didn't work that day, so I was surprised he was awake. He started talking to me about feeling overwhelmed (there was a lot going on with his family at the time), and just generally having a lot on him mind. We talked for a little, and then I left to get ready for work. I couldn't shake the feeling though that something was going on, so I decided I would stay home and spend some quality time with him. When I went back in to the bedroom, he sat up and started rambling about how he just "couldn't wait any longer" and then he proposed. There was no ring yet, because he hadn't planned on proposing then, so we picked one out together.

    TL/DR: 4:30 a.m., bedhead and all.

My Christmas gift was front row tickets for the Indigo Girls at the Kennedy Center. I was THRILLED. They are one of my faves (he has fallen in love with them since being with me). They started playing "Power of Two" and I started a stupid fan girl eeek noise, and poking him in the shoulder saying "They are playing our song!".... then watched as he sung along to the lyrics (shocker)!

At the end of the song he turned to me and had the ring in his hand and asked me to marry him.

Apparently he went back and forth about getting down on a knee, but he knew that would draw attention to us (front row of a concert) and I'd be super embarrassed. As it was, I knew some other people at the concert. When we announced it on Facebook, a few of my friends said they saw us when it happened.

We took a trip out to Shanghai in May 2015. On May 19th, we took an early train ride out to Hangzhou, the capital and largest city of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China. After exploring the city and a few islands during the day, we decided to take a relaxing and romantic boat ride over the West Lake. This is when FH got down on one knee and proposed. Happily with some tears, I said yes! At the moment, FH used an origami ring he made from a $100 bill. On the ride back in we were surprised & greeted with a water show (nothing pre-planned, the water show goes off every 30 min). After, to keep up with the Japanese theme we ate sushi at an all-you-can-eat sushi, sake & beer restaurant. It was a perfect and beautiful day for us.

Ugh so stressful right now thanks for making this post! My FH took me to St. Lucia and we went up to an old Fort that overlooked the island. He had an older British couple take pictures of us. I was so shocked by the diamond I didn't hear a word he said or respond!!!

My FH proposed in our apartment. He wrote me a story about how important our relationship is to him and how it makes him feel at home. Behind the story was the ring box with a replica of something special to us. It was perfect because it was chill and private.

I was working late one night and got home to find dinner on the table (not unusual, FH often cooks when I work late). Afterwards we were sitting on the couch watching TV and he asked me what flavor ice cream I wanted (again not unusual- I have ice cream almost every night). I ate the whole bowl of ice cream not noticing that he had engraved "Will you marry me?" on the spoon. He had to ask me twice if I was sure I was finished before I finally noticed the spoon.

I had always joked with my girlfriends that he'd never be able to surprise me and that I hoped he proposed on a random Tuesday..... and sure enough it was a random Tuesday Smiley smile

I threw FH a surprise 30th birthday party at a clubhouse down the shore, a few doors down from his family's beach house. He was super surprised that both of our families and all of our friends were all there to surprise him! He decided that proposing at the party was the best time! He took my dad aside and asked him, then let my mom and sister, and his family in on the secret.

He quickly ran back over to his house where he had stashed the ring. When he got back, he asked for help putting some gifts in the car, and as we were walking back into the clubhouse, he did it!! I asked if he had told anyone inside, and he said, 'Just your dad.' As I opened the clubhouse door, all our family and friends were standing there with cameras! I'm so glad that it was a private moment for us when it happened, but then we had the chance to celebrate with everyone we loved. I wouldn't change it for the world.

He did it in my most favorite place in the world. In bed! Haha! We were taking a staycation in Maui (we live on Oahu... it was his first time on Maui) and I was grossly sick. So when he proposed I had bedhead, morning breath, snot coming out of my nose... and he did it still thinking I was the most beautiful person in the world!

Side note: He built my 3-stone engagement ring on Blue Nile, placed it in the cart, and ordered a fake 3 stone ring that looks exactly like it and used the "placeholder" ring to propose. He knows that I'm super picky with my jewelry (I rarely wear jewelry and if I do, it does NOT cost more than, like, $20) so he told me that if I loved the ring, he'll order it online and if I don't then he'll take me to shop for whatever ring I want. Of course I said I wanted what he chose for me and now I have a pseudo ring to wear when we're traveling on vacay or at my 2nd job as a server. God I love that man!!

ETA: AND he asked my parents for their blessings the day we were leaving to fly out to Maui!!!

FH took my son and I to a planetarium and after the movie he has a slide up on the ceiling asking me to marry him. He got down on one knee and opened the ring box upside down. It was such a him thing to do. It was so funny but I didn't process really what was going on I was so surprised.

My fiance and I were talking about marriage/engagement for several months before he "officially" proposed. It was just the natural progression of our relationship. The actual proposal happened this past February one Saturday evening at Balboa Park in San Diego. We were in the Zoro Garden (aka: the Butterfly garden/former 1930s nudist colony, lol).

He later told me he'd been carrying the ring around in his pocket for about a month waiting for when the moment felt "right." He got super emotional when he did it, was trembling with tears in his eyes when he asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes. =)

Aw, I love reading all of these! So heres my story.. Both my fiancé and I are performers ( hes a drummer, Im a prop and fire dancer ) He invited me to perform with a hula hoop on stage with his band, he invited his dad, both my parents and my step parents to the show (which raised some flags for me because they rarely come out to shows, let alone together lol) He also arranged for me to get a facial and massage that day so i just kinda had a feeling that this was gonna be the day.

So the concert was a tribute to The Eagles and all the bands had to write songs inspired by The Eagles, he had his band right a proposal song for me! When they finished the song he pulled me up front and said the cutest speech (he was so nervous!) That was the best show of my life!! Smiley smile
