How worried should i actually be about people stealing from the wedding card box?

Diandra, on June 8, 2019 at 12:16 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Hi everyone,

I'm 15 days away and was doing some super last minute shopping for the big day. I need to get a box to hold any card gifts but I don't actually know if I should bother getting one with a lock or just getting a quick and easy to open box. It seems like there's a lot of paranoia/sitting next to the gifts table to make sure nothing is stolen, but how often does that really happen? Any info or stories would be helpful in my decision.

Thanks!

This was our card box, got it for about $20 at Michaels and I superglued the clasp shut! Lol. Sounds silly, but it worked! It was easy enough for me to break through the superglue myself after the reception, but it held strong enough that it would’ve been pretty difficult for someone to open it inconspicuously

If you're really worried about it, you can always get a clear glass box with a small lock on it that has a slot at the top where they can drop the cards in it. I've heard a couple stories about things getting stolen before and before those stories I never heard of anything getting stolen before. I didn't even know that was a thing!

I don't think it happens all the time but you can never be too sure. I wouldnt worry about your guests, but depending on where you're having the festivities, there will be a lot of people coming and going and vendor staff or wandering venue guests may find it easy to develop sticky fingers.

I also heard horror stories, so we got a nice chest card box with a card slot on top from Hobby Lobby and bought a small lock from Home Depot. FH will screw the lock on. We got some ribbon and a bow to cover the lock so it's not visible.

I have heard those horror stories. However the ones I've heard are moreso because it was not guarded. Or rather, it was left in the entrance area totally unmanned by anyone and that was kind of dumb to begin with - someone just waltzed on in and grabbed it and ran away with it:

So if yours is deep inside your venue with security and what not then it should be ok. But I understand the paranoia. My fiance is super paranoid and wants to take measures to ensure ours won't be stolen too.

The box my daughter used did not have a lock...instead her aunt volunteered to walk by the gift table a few times during the evening to sweep the box clean of envelopes, and store them in her bag that was deep underneath her table. No issues at all with that process.

My FH actually was worried about this. I initially wanted a clear box that can be opened at the top, but he wanted something with a lock.
