How would you handle seating?

Mackenzie, on August 10, 2021 at 4:14 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5
I am having my wedding in the forest on the 28th. The venue has only 12 chairs to provide for guests, but they also have hanging benches and seats and nets in the trees with pillows that guests often use when they do movie events in the theater. They also have some seating up in the treehouses facing the theater. I have 33 guests total coming, the ceremony will only be 10-15 minutes total, but I’m trying to figure out exactly how to direct guests to places to sit. I plan for the guests who are much older getting the chairs, but I want to make sure everyone is comfortable in this laid back setting so any tips or advice would be wonderful How would you handle seating? 1

Will you have a microphone for the ceremony? If you will I’d direct them toward those tables/benches up in the treehouse as long as that will give them a visual on the ceremony. If you won’t have a microphone, you’ll probably want all your guests close by. Could you find somewhere to rent the additional 20 chairs?

Since you have such a small guest list ask your guests if anyone has an issue with heights! You can potentially assign seats or sections to your guests and those that do have an issue can be placed on the decks closer to the ground.

If possible, avoid the seating that requires use of a ladder with no deck below it as I'm assuming the ladies will be wearing heels/ all of your guests will be in nice clothing and not willing to climb. From the photos, it looks like the 12 chairs plus the benches and deck seating will be enough to cover 33 people.

I'm totally loving the idea of the photos with guests all over this tree house watching your ceremony - so unique and creative!

I believe we will have a microphone we’re going over that next week, to confirm though.
In terms of renting 20 extra chairs, the layout of the forest wouldn’t be great to actually try and arrange chairs around the stage because of terrain. That and it is a .4 mile walk into the woods, everything we’re bringing in we are having ziplined over into the venue 3 hours in advance.

Great ideas! I’m definitely considering telling my guests to wear comfortable shoes as well, simply because it is a .4 mile walk into the venue through the forest.

Just a tip - when you tell them to wear comfortable shoes, let them know WHY they need comfortable shoes. I went to a wedding at the summer camp I used to attend and the dress code said "casual" so (knowing the camp very well) I wore my shiny purple Birkenstocks. Almost every other person at the wedding wore formal attire, specifically heels, even though the dress code was casual, and they ended up having a tough time walking through the lawns and dirt roads

TLDR: its good to give people context for casual as weddings are expected to be more formal.
