Huge head table - seating on both sides?

Mindy, on July 24, 2018 at 9:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
I'm struggling big time with our head table as we have 19 people total (including us and SOs). Is anyone having people sit on both sides of their head table, or have you seen this done, and does it work? I really don't love the idea. The fiancé is adamant though that everyone be at the head table (SOs included), and he doesn't want everyone sitting on one side since he thinks it will be too long. If we go the both sides route, I was thinking we could at least put SOs on the opposite side (backs to our guests), but the fiancé says he wants his groomsmen on both sides so he can easily talk to them. If we have to go the both sides route, I at least think all bridesmaids and groomsmen should be facing our guests vs. having some on the opposite side of the table with their backs to our guests. Attached is the layout the Fiancé wants. Open to any and all suggestions. I'm currently hating this layout but may have to live with it. Thanks!

Hey, we also have 19 people at our head table including SOs. We will have ourselves and the wedding party face the crowd and their SOs will face away from the crowd. I like that it still helps designate the wedding party while allowing everyone to sit together, and conversation will be easier than all facing forward. It's only for about an hour and then we all get up to mingle anyways so I don't think the wedding party needs to be on both sides! Besides, if you do the wedding party on both sides close to you two, won't the SOs end up clumped together at the end of the table feeling awkward anyways?

We can actually make it work with all of them on one side, but the fiancé wants half of his groomsmen on the opposite side so that he can talk to them. An idea I hate!

Thanks! That's what I want to do if we have to go the both sides route. I think he's wanting like groomsmen + date + groomsmen + date on his side and the same set up on the opposite side. Frankly, I don't think he understands what he wants, but this is helpful. I'm going to push back and say wedding party is facing the same way!

I feel like all you do at the head table is eat then you go off dancing and talking to others. I think your MSM should go with the way you want to go :-)

I think it's a great idea. I personally find head tables odd and not very social not having anyone across you.

I was throwing around the same idea. I'm just worried if people will think it's weird that SO's are facing the opposite way. Does anyone one have real life pictures of what this could look like?

If he’s adamant about having a head table, I think SOs on the other side is the best way to go about it. I also think FH is very much overestimating the amount of time he will have to spend chatting with his groomsmen at the head table.

I agree with @Caytlyn - your FH is truly putting too much importance on this. You'll be lucky to be sitting at the table for more than 15-20 minutes for toasts and eating, and then you'll both be up and about for the rest of the night.

I am getting married 8/18/18 and I have 12 in my party plus us, so 14. I am doing a small 4ft table for us and 2 8ft tables on each side. 6 people on the back and SO in from of them. This way the wedding party are all facing the crowd. Looks beautiful. So that's 26 of us!!! So easy.

I was in a wedding where the Bridal party dates sat across from us. My FI didn't love having his back to everything (I was a bridesmaid) but he survived. Two of the bridesmaids didn't have dates so they just across from each other, that seemed to work fine as well. We only sat there for dinner and the MOH/BM speeches anyways

Could you put your head table in the middle of your guest tables. I have seen many head tables like that with guests on both sides and it looks lovely!

I have been to weddings where the head table has seating on both sides. I wouldnt worry about who is on what side since it really does not matter. I do think it would be best for couples to sit next to each other vs across from one another. That is typically how couples sit when in large group settings like this.

I'm curious - are they Queens Tables? We have 3, 8ft tables, but my coordinator told me we can only fit 4 people on each side. If I could do more than 4, that would help.

4 people?? That's nonsense. But I guess if your chairs are huge. My chairs are folding chairs at the head tables then there are regular banquet chairs at the rounds tables for guest. But like I said I guess it depends on the size chairs. I would look at it in person and decided ❤
