Hula Hoops

Laurel, on November 20, 2018 at 12:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 43

Hello everyone.

I know I can find hula hoops at dollar tree, but it never occurred to me that they were a seasonal item. Does anyone know when I can get hula hoops at the dollar tree? I feel spring to summer is the time dollar tree will have them but I want to have enough time to create them. My alternative is sewing hoops and I can split them and have 2 hoops - but they are more expensive. My wedding is in May 2019 and I want these accents hanging throughout the wedding and reception.

The picture shown here is actually a sewing hoop and I would just go ahead and use those. Hula Hoops are cheaply made, bend easily, and much larger comparatively for holding like a bouquet. If this is the look you are going for for your BMs (the one pictured) I would just wait until your local craft store has a sale and buy some then. They really aren't that expensive, will be much sturdier and give a better look. Plus hula hoops are usually garishly colorful and you might not be able to find ones that will match your decor

^Michael's has these for $1.49 (3in) - $3.29 (14in). The photo you posted is probably 10" which is still under $2! Plus they have a 40% off coupon... I would go ahead and use a craft store if you want this look since you don't have to worry about covering some crazy colored hoop like PP mentioned or having a noise maker if someone is going to carry it since they are normally full of beads. Good luck!

My plan is it spray paint the hula hoops a color to match our decor and then hot glue florals to them and hang them around the venue. I don't necessarily want to to the hoops for the bridesmaids but its one way to save on florals. Thank you.

I didn't realize they were so inexpensive. Thank you! I will have to wait until hobby lobby has a sail on sewing items. Thank you!

Oops I mean Michael's. They seems to have a better deal on them than hobby lobby.

You are welcome! Hobby Lobby and Michael's have become my go-to during wedding planning too. I love this hoop idea though, I might have to steal it! Smiley smile

Oh wonderful! Yours looks great! Did you separate the hoops out or leave it with the 2 pieces?

I left it because it gave more room to hot glue the pine and pinecones to. And thank you I love them!

That is true it would be a sturdier foundation to hot glue.

Those are so cute! I happened to see those on Michael's website after someone earlier meantioned their embroidery hoops. This might be the route to go. How difficult was it for the flowers to say on?

I would think that hot glue would just melt the plastic anyways... unless you get really nice ones... in which case they would cost more and again you’re better off with sewing equipment

have you considered checking out eBay?

I know you want to get started but a 6-8 week ship is still much sooner than summer and you may actually save money compared to hula Hoopes and not risk a bunch of melted plastic

im using it for a lot of stuff actually

i just figure exactly what I want and shop by model number so I don’t have to worry because I’m buying a brand I have seen and touched and know is right for 1/3, 1/4, or sometimes even less

i need a bunch on uv lights for reception so I’m getting them for $0.75 each instead of $2-3 I found as “best price” I actually got extras and still spent a lot less

My now sister in law got hula hoop size that they fastened together to form the top of an arch. And from a source I wood not have though to look, hoops for rhythmic gymnastics. Bought more expensively if you buy single. But they sell them in boxes of 10, 12, and 18. For school age gym classes, and gymnastics teams. They are a little less flexible, keep the round shape. Per hoop they were between $3 & $ 4. She ordered from the physical fitness section of a school supply place. Since Walmart outfits pep squads and gymnastics team cothes, and batons and things, they may well sell them by the dozen of you inquire. Not carried on the main website always, but when you want group purchases of many things, 10-12, they send a separate web address. Now that schools have outfitted themselves for a school year, you may see a clearance in fitness or gymnastics practice hoops.

Save-on-crafts has lots of things, including covered wire and circular wire frames meant to be foundations for wreaths or flower displays. Lots of our DIY materials, and vases, were from them. https://www.save-on-crafts.com/catalogsearch/result/?f=heavy+gauge+wire&q=gauge+wire

I would think the hula hoops will be available after the new year.

I agree, I would stick to the embroidery hoops for the bridesmaids.
