huma Trial & Bridal Portrait Advice Needed

Kaitlyn, on June 19, 2019 at 1:15 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 3

I'm getting married in another state and have scheduled my HUMA trial at the end of July. I was hoping to schedule my bridal portraits for the same morning, however my photographer said that having pictures at the time of day my trial will be over isn't the best lighting (mid-day). I have two options but I'm struggling with what is the "best" one.

Option 1: Keep my HUMA trial at 9:00am and then schedule my bridal portraits for later that evening.

CON: I'd have a large gap between with nothing to do and I would have to drive back to my home state late at night with work the next morning. PRO: I have my exact wedding look for my bridal portraits and only have to pay once.

Option 2: Have my original HUMA appointment and schedule bridal portraits closer to the wedding in August.

CON: I'd have to pay for another trial or try and do hair/makeup myself - it's not something I'm good with. I could also try to find other professionals, but again I'd have to pay. PRO: Less stress around filling my time with activities and I wouldn't have to drive late at night.

Sometimes hearing the opinions of others helps me to make the decision I know I should but have problems committing to haha. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

I did my H&MU trials on the same day as my bridal portraits. My make up was done at noon. Hair done at 4pm. Pictures done at 6:30/7. My make up lasted. All I had to do was touch up the lipstick. If I were you, I'd keep things the way they are with the gap between trials and pictures. Take someone with you that can help entertain you / help you out. You'll need someone there to help you get in and out of your dress and to help carry the back of your dress (so you don't get it dirty during pics) anyways. I had my MOH and mom assist me. To me, the gap would be worth not having to pay for another expensive trial and trip there. What about a third option? You could reschedule your H&MU trials until August when it's closer to your date on the same day that you would schedule your bridal portraits. OR, option 4: reschedule your current H&MU trials for later in the day.

Unfortunately my H&MU artist is pretty popular and was already booked later in the day. She also only does trials during the weekday and with my travel/work schedule no August dates worked for the both of us. My Mom had already planned to help me in the morning and then go back to work but I can just ask her to take the whole day off to spend with me. I hate putting people out so I think that's why I'm more stressed about the gap - even though it makes the most sense to keep things they way they are.

    Hey Kaitlyn!

If you are unable to reschedule your hair and MUA appointment, then I think waiting for your photoshoot on the same day would be your best option. You would then get it all done in the one day and wouldn’t have to worry about scheduling any more appointments as your wedding draws closer. It’s a great idea to have someone with you on the day! I’m sure your mom won’t mind coming for the whole day, she might like the opportunity to spend some time with you.

Do you have any inspiration pictures of what you want your hair and makeup to look like?
