Human alternative to welcome sign?

Michelle, on April 12, 2021 at 3:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Is anyone greeting your guests as they arrive? Guestbook attendant, ushers, parents if any, the bride and groom, someone else?

We will we having a beautiful custom mirror sign made to welcome our guests. FH and I actually put a lot of thought into what we wanted the first impression for guests to be, and having a warm body greeting people was one of the options we considered. However, both we and multiple other people (my parents and a couple of our friends) first thought about a person welcoming guests was a Walmart greeter. That was definitely not the vibe we were going for! LOL And not all guests would know the greeter. I don’t know how personal, warm or welcoming it would be to have a random stranger welcoming you to a wedding, having no idea if this was a family member of the couple, a friend, the wedding planner, or somebody hired. Just seemed awkward and confusing.

I just wrote about this in another forum that in my culture we have that!

in my culture the bride and groom literally greet and take a photo with the guests after they signed in.

the idea is that they also get a memento from this photo with us that honestly they probably won't interact with us or have another opportunity to have a photo with us later in the night. they get an actual print out of the photo that gets inserted into folder for them at the end of the night too!

We had a welcome sign, but my 5 year old nephew stood at the entrance doors to the ceremony space to welcome our guests and direct them to the "Sanitization Station" (COVID bride, here) to sanitize their hands before the walking into the ceremony. Our wedding was small (20 people) and everyone knew my nephew . . . and he did such a good job . . . they loved him! (And he was so excited that he got a chance to give adults instructions for a change. LOL!)

My brothers will be our ushers and their jobs are to greet, escort to seats, and hand out programs. They'll be wearing something uniform so people will know that they're apart of the wedding party. I thought it was nicer than a simple sign.
