Hunting on your Honeymoon

We are planning a two week honeymoon, first week in Caribbean, second week in or around Montana/Wyoming. We would like to hunt (elk, deer, etc) on the second week, and I was wondering if anyone had either been for their honeymoon or in general, and what advice you may have for the Montana/Wyoming...

So.... you don't even know what hunting is? Got it.

Move along kids, nothing more to see here.

ETA: Do you know the definition of ignorant, or are you just using words? (See, that was catty, but at this point, IDGAF).

Even if you never cared for hunting, I would strongly suggest doing some research and asking questions before equating hunting to "killing an animal and leaving it there."

Melissa: it baffles me that you feel the need to defend an opinion that you had no place to make in the first place. Whether your opinion has any merit at all is irrelevant. It has no place here. I hope this post teaches you to refrain from saying such things in the future in an attempt to not stir the pot. I think we'd all like to see that.

@Emmy - me too! I kept hearing her song in my head as I read Melissa's comment about the ring and not backpeddling. Thought it was time that she made an appearance.

Nope, I totally enjoyed this. WW was too on topic today. It was almost creepy.

KM I like you so I'm not going to say anything obnoxious back but to act is if I'm the only one who has stirred the pot is a little ridiculous.

What you said "I don't believe in killing animals for fun, so I have no advice"

What you should have said: "I know nothing about hunting, so I have no advice".

Or nothing at all. I hope you've learned from this.

If that is in reference to me, Of course I'm still going. If someone is going to have a conversation with me, I'm going to say something back.

I'm not here to pretend I know anything about hunting (besides the fact that I will acknowledge that killing and eating an animals is not a horrible thing to do) but all of this chicken nugget talk just brought this to mind:

    I'll try.

You were not the only one who said something out of line, but you were the one who escalated it at least twice, once with your very first, misinformed comment, and with the hillbilly comment (back pedaling references you saying "oh well I knew she wouldn't find it insulting so it's okay"). So they're telling the instigator to stop by talking to you.

ETA: confusing hunting and poaching is also considered back pedaling.

If you are considering hunting as part of your honeymoon, consider the different seasons and what game you prefer. Montana http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/ and Wyoming https://wgfd.wyo.gov/hunting have some fairly similar requirements (but many are different!) regarding licensure and tags. For instance, Wyoming requires that nonresident big and trophy game hunters obtain a professional outfitter or resident guide while hunting in any federally designated wilderness area. All outfitters must be licensed by the Wyoming Board of Outfitters and Professional Guides. If you're hunting in Wyoming, finding an outfitter or guide there is a great start: http://outfitters.state.wy.us/

Well this was entertaining. Here's the question everyone keeps talking about:

@Amanda - do you plan to bring home the meat? I know you don't plan to leave it in the woods. A lot of people will also donate to a local shelter after it is processed. I think it's great.

I have another question though. What do you call killing an animal that you eat? I thought it was hunting?

Also, I come from a family of hunters, and @Amanda, I think breaking it up like that is a great idea! DH is a big time hunter, so I won't tell him about it lol. I want Europe in February. So he's going to Alaska next fall. It's a win, win really.

If anyone is interested, this is a really great video made by a professional hunter entitled "Who We Are."

    https://vimeo.com/105686970

"Don't confuse me with being anything else other than proud. Proud to be a hunter. It's time we stop apologizing for how we get our protein. This is who we are. Unless you’re a small time rancher, small time farmer, a hunter or fishermen... you really have no idea where your food comes from. Most people don’t even think about it. Well, we think about it. ” - Donnie Vincent.
