Hunting on your Honeymoon

We are planning a two week honeymoon, first week in Caribbean, second week in or around Montana/Wyoming. We would like to hunt (elk, deer, etc) on the second week, and I was wondering if anyone had either been for their honeymoon or in general, and what advice you may have for the Montana/Wyoming...

@OP- please don't get discouraged or turned off from WW because of rude and uncalled for comments on your thread.

Hunting for sport/trophies/fun is disgusting. As an avid hunter myself my biggest pet peeve about hunting are those who hunt for sport, that's not hunting and I feel sorry for anyone who thinks it is.

This is the one argumentative thread I can actually contribute to and I can't believe I commented once and left it before it got good.

The farming industry is disgusting. My venison fajitas tonight were delicious!

M is right in every, single solitary thing she said. GO M.

Most people who hunt do not hunt for fun, they are ethically and economically providing food for their family in a way that doesn't harm the environment like farming does and they eat "organic" meat from animals that actually lived organically and lived an amazing life. Very unlike the farmed meat you can get from a store. Even "Organic, Cage free" means they live in a giant shed and are walking and pooping all over each other. Mmmm...yum??

edit: I also don't agree with trophy hunting or fur trapping if the meat isn't being used. Eat or donate the meat.

I have to be honest here. I grew up in suburbia heaven and the closest to hunting that I got was accidentally running over a squirrel. Melissa, that sounds like your experiences as well. My husband's family are all huge hunters. After LEARNING about hunting, I was blown away.

My BIL sets up huge feeders for the wild life year round. Obviously it helps them during hunting season because the animals go where they were fed, but they are feeding a population during times when it would be almost impossible for them to find food. Those animals would starve to death otherwise. They also only shoot dear that fall into specific categories. (It depends on the velvet for their horns? Or may the points?? This was over my head). So Bambi is not being shot in the face for fun. I also *believe* they can distinguish when a female has recently had a baby or if it's a different season so it's avoiding all together.

I still barely know anything about hunting. But it is NOT a blood thirsty sport where people kill as many animals as possible and torture them to death. Their deaths are typically quick. I am honestly ashamed that I used to feel the same way as Melissa about hunting, because I had NO IDEA. Melissa, I encourage you to educate yourself a little. You will be surprised. I have yet to meet someone who educated themselves and felt the same after.

Ok, so definitely did not mean for this post to start all of this, but we do all have valid opinions. To address those of you asking if we will be eating the meat....of course we will, and if we cannot bring it all home, we will donate it to a charity or organization that can use it. Our plan is to go with an outfitter to experience a different part of the country, while enjoying something we both love to do. Like many of you have already mentioned, part of hunting is conservationism. Even if we do not kill anything on our hunt, we will be blessed to have been able to see the habitat, learn more about the animals, and gain whatever knowledge we can bring back with us. Like I said, everyone has their own opinion. With that being said, we like to hunt, with bows and guns, and we like to shoot. It is important for us that we know where our meat comes from, and yes, we use all of the animal. I appreciate all of the advice and knowledge given on here, and I will be in contact with some of you for sure! But please, let's just end the discussion over opinions and stances, and only post if you have some advice for my trip. Thanks y'all....and no, my MOH is not named Ally Smiley smile

Amanda that sounds like an amazing honeymoon!! And m, thank you for educating people about hunting. It is seriously misunderstood and we need more educated and well-spoken people to stand up for it!
